Gladys Jefferson Obituary

Gladys Lee Jefferson was born on January 3, 1932 in Little Rock Arkansas. She and her younger sister, Rose Marie Nevins, who preceded her in death, were raised by their mother Clara Louise Dabney.

She and Rose were very close and were always together. They would take delight in spanking you at the card table. They both were excellent cooks, learned from their mother Clara. We spent our lives together as a close-knit family with her mother, sister and our cousins.

In her teen years, she moved with her family from Little Rock, Arkansas to Portland, Oregan. Then later in life, on to Denver, Colorado, where she raised her family; and finally, in her more mature years she settled in Aurora Colorado, where she resided until now.

She had heart, meaning, she would tackle a DIY project at home in a heartbeat. Many projects were completed during the era where the internet was not thought of to consult with; just help from a friend and family.

She was the mother of eight children. She was the matriarch of our family. A no-nonsense mother to all of her children. Strict in discipline, and wanting us to learn about and come to serve Jehovah.

On May 29, 1971, she dedicated her life to Jehovah and served him faithfully for the rest of her life. Later in her service, she became a pioneer. She stood firm on her beliefs. She raised her children with the principles from the Bible and the beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She enjoyed and faithfully attended the meetings, conventions, assemblies, and going out in field service with her companion, sister Bea Campbell, at her favorite location near a city bus stop. She was well known by the bus patrons. It is noted that she is missed at that location. Some have asked about her and would not accept literature from friends who have tried to place them; the patrons say they will only accept it from her.

She always kept her yard beautiful and welcoming; and her annual garden growing with vegetables. She even shared her garden space with her spiritual sisters.

Gladys was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Annette Gayles and Wanda Jefferson; and 1 son, Stanley Jefferson.

She departed this life on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at home in Aurora, Colorado. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Sam (Donna) Jefferson, Melvin Jefferson, Casandra (John) Davis, Christine Busby, and Joyce Busby; 18 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, a continual number of great-great-grandchildren, and a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews, and friends.
