Gladys Irene "Tavares" Reuter

Gladys Irene (Tavares) Reuter, 81, of Poseyville, Indiana, passed away Monday, September 8, 2025 at her home.

Gladys was born in Holualoa Kona, Hawaii on March 26, 1944 to the late Manuel and Adeline (Cordeiro) Tavares. She was actively involved in the community. Gladys was a member of the Eastern Star, VFW Auxiliary Post 114, TOTAC, and Tri-State Model A Club. She was involved in the Boy Scouts for over 30 years and served as president of North Posey Band Boosters Club. Gladys spent her free time quilting, sewing, and canning. She made the best jars of jelly and was known for her chocolate log cakes. Gladys will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Gladys is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert Reuter of Poseyville, IN; daughters, Janet Helfert (Eddie) of St. Wendel, IN, Peggy Eickhoff of Evansville, IN, and Robin Satterly (Steve) of Indianapolis, IN; son, Matthew Reuter of St. Wendel, IN; grandchildren, Zachary, Jamey, Robert, and Michael Helfert, Nicholas, Nathan, Noah, Nolan, and Lily Eickhoff, Jessica and Carole Satterly, and Raymond Reuter; 16 great-grandchildren and 3 more on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Miyose; brother, Manuel E. Tavares, Jr.; son-in-law, Stanley Eickhoff; and daughter-in-law, Sarah Reuter.

A celebration of Gladys' life will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711, with an Eastern Star memorial service and Pastor Tim Judd officiating.

Friends may visit from 2:00 pm until service time on Thursday at Browning Funeral Home.
