Gladys Silva Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 17, 2025.
Gladys Elizabeth (Tarvis) Silva passed peacefully on September 13, 2025, with her daughter and great-grandchildren by her side. She was 92 years old.

Gladys was born in Provincetown on April 21, 1933, to Manuel Tarvis and Annie Rego, who migrated to America from Portugal. She was raised alongside her sisters and brother, Evelyn, Mary, and Lawrence, in Provincetown, where her love of family began.

Gladys met her future husband, Custodio Joseph Silva Sr., while he was working as a chef at his mother's restaurant, the Fishermen's Cove. Their story began there, and they were married on July 7, 1951. They shared a loving marriage of 73 years and raised five children together: Lawrence, Brenda, Timothy, Custodio Jr., and Paul.

Gladys dedicated herself fully to her family. She was the heart of the household, known for her love, strength, and unwavering support. Whether she was attending dance recitals, music concerts, school plays, cheering from the sidelines, or hosting family meals, she gave endlessly of herself. Her presence was powerful, always there, always steady.

In addition to raising her children, Gladys worked to help support their family as a waitress, cook at a local restaurant, and at a nursing home. In addition, she was actively involved in her church, veterans' organization, and bowling league. She especially loved gardening, cooking, rug hooking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family was the center of Gladys's life. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, celebrating each of their milestones with pride and joy. Her home was filled with stories, laughter, and love.

Gladys was predeceased by her son Timothy Silva (d. 2001) and her beloved husband, Custodio Joseph Silva Sr. (d. 2024).

She leaves behind her children: Lawrence and his wife, Cathy; Brenda; Custodio Jr. and his wife, Karen; and Paul and his wife, Maureen. She was the cherished grandmother of ten and great-grandmother of ten.

"Mom, Mimi, Nana, you were our foundation and our light. We will carry your love with us always."

A Graveside Service will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery, Jerome Smith Road, Provincetown, on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gladys's memory to Cape Cod Children's Place, a cause close to the family's heart.

The family would like to thank Rev. Kate Wilkinson, VNA of Cape Cod, and Comfort Care, the Truro Police, Fire and Rescue, as well as all of their friends, for their care, support, and kindness during Gladys's final days.
