Gladys A. Standley, 85, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, February 27, 2026, at the Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington, Kansas.
Gladys was born on February 24, 1941, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Elmer E. and Minnie (Boxberger) Boxberger. She grew up in Russell and graduated from Rusell High School. She was united in marriage to Darrell Gene Standley on June 26, 1960, in Russell, Kansas. From this union Gladys and Darrell were blessed with two sons Brian and Brad. She was a loyal homemaker taking care of her husband and sons, but also worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Central Machine Shop in Russell. She was a lifelong active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. She enjoyed crocheting and will be remember by her family as a woman who loved to shop until she dropped and loved being stubborn. Most of all she loved being with her family and being active in her grandchildren’s activities.
Surviving family include her sons Brian Standley (Rachelle) of Goodland, Kansas and Brad Standley (Rosie) of Russell, Kansas; brothers Ronnie Boxberger (Diana) and Donnie Boxberger (Carol) all of Russell, Kansas; 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Darrell on November 14, 2007, and her sister Loretta Mentlich.
A graveside service to celebrate Gladys’ life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 05, 2026, at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell, Kansas. Viewing will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Wednesday, March 04, 2026, at the mortuary. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church Youth Group and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
