CORVALLIS - Mom left this world and went to Heaven on Sunday, February 11 - with her family by her side. Leaving her troubling Dementia behind her. Mom was 92. We miss her dearly.

Gladys Lynee (Johnson) Stuewe was born on January 23, 1932, in Sydney, Nebraska - to parents Louis and Ina Johnson. When Mom was 12 years old, the family moved to Alhambra, California - while older brother Roger was away in the war.

Mom met Vern Stuewe in 1948 - at a roller skating rink in Pasadena. They married in 1951 at Montebello, CA - while Dad was home on a weekend leave from Navy Boot Camp.

They made their first home in Fullerton, California - where 5 of their children were born.

In 1963 the family moved from California to Kings Valley, Oregon - to a 125-acre farm. All while Mom was pregnant with youngest daughter Tina! Mom became the quintessential Pioneer Woman - learning to make home made soap, butchering chickens, riding ponies, sewing all our clothes, learning to cook mutton and all that comes with farm life.

In 1968 the family moved to South Corvallis, to Kiger Island. After many of the children were grown - Mom went back to work. During the early 70's - Mom worked for Kessey's Florists in Corvallis. In 1975, Mom was hired at US Bank in Corvallis, where she retired in 1987.

In retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed many years in the sunshine at their winter home in Indio, CA.

Mom is survived by her husband of 72 years, Vern. Six children - Sharon (Gary), Dale (Cindy), Marilyn (John), Eric (Shelley), Fred (Eileen), and Tina (Mark). Nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mom has shaped all our lives - and others - thru her life lived with kindness, gentleness, selflessness and humility.
