Glen Holcomb was born to Howard and Pauline on January 17, 1952, in
Gravette, Arkansas. With a bright shock of red hair and a face full of freckles, he enjoyed many adventures throughout the Ozark Mountains with his beloved dog Rex and his best friend Cotton. He attended college at Missouri Southern where he earned a degree and a passion for learning that would propel him through a remarkable life.
In 1978, Glen lost a game of racquetball and found the love of his life in his opponent, Doris Whitney. They married the following year and raised two daughters, Nikki and Ragen. Glen and Doris were supportive and loving parents with a shared motto: We don't want to have things; we want to do things." They lived every imaginable adventure together, over land sea and air. Whether trekking through the jungle in Borneo, scuba diving with tiger sharks, or canoeing on a glacier lake, Glen and Doris loved wild places and wild things. They traveled to nearly 50 countries over their 40-year marriage and made human and animal friends to last a lifetime all along the way.
Glen's early career in the machine tool business revealed a talent for sales and an appreciation for Quality. His experience in manufacturing, integrity in business, and enthusiasm for a challenge served to build decades-long partnerships, global supply chains, and innovative technologies through his legacy company, Map Oil Tools, Inc. Employees, clients, and associates of Glen have all shared memories of his honesty, kindness, generosity, optimism, and above all a sense of humor that brought joy to any occasion or task. His professional family extends to all corners of the earth, but he truly loved the family he found in Jingzhou City, China. He will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives he influenced and was influenced by.
The loss of Doris in 2019 was unexpected and combined with health issues that kept Glen home more and more, the family reached out to the community to find a companion. Emilie Washington stepped up to be that friend. Her dutiful, loving care of Glen was evident in all aspects of his life. Though Glen's health declined, his buoyant and jocular attitude toward life was uplifted and flourished under Emilie's excellent care. The family would like to recognize all the wonderful people who have contributed to his care: Hannah, Alison, Tay, Tiffany, Jake, Chelsie, Christiana, Gigi, Shalisa, Angela, Trinity, and Velma.
Glen leaves behind his daughters Nikki and Ragen; sons-in-law Shane and Gilbert; his granddaughters Chyanne, Ada, Olive, and Genie; his brother Bruce, sister Carlene; sisters-in-law Norma, Ingrid, and Daisy; his nieces and nephews Terri, Mac, Jade, Bobby, Frank, and Jeanette; his beloved pets Gracie, Bailey, and Alley Cat.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, March 1st with visitation from 10am-4pm and a memorial service at 2pm at 4202 Old Jeanerette Rd,
New Iberia, LA 70560.
