Randy James Melancon, a native of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana and a resident of Delcambre, Louisiana for the past 10 years, passed away on January 30, 2026, at the age of 75.

Randy proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from June 1970 until February 1974. He was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Texas and served with the 67th Civil Engineering Squadron (Tactical), attaining the rank of Sergeant (E-4). During his service, he received the Small Arms Marksmanship Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

Following his military service, Randy worked for many years as a heavy machinery operator. Outside of his career, music was his true passion. An extremely talented drummer for more than 50 years, Randy shared the stage with world-renowned musicians including Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Michael Martin Murphey, Jerry Jeff Walker, Dan Seals, Charley Pride, and Earl Scruggs. He also performed with many well-known regional artists such as Wayne Toups, Sammy Kershaw, Zachary Richard, and Jo-El Sonnier, along with countless local country, Cajun, zydeco, and swamp pop bands. Randy was the drummer on the 1994 Cajun French Music Association (CFMA) "Best First Album by a Band" award-winning album by Beau Thomas & Cajun Power.

He is survived by his significant other, Patricia Boudreaux; his children, Norma Harman, Mark Melancon, and Brock Melancon; stepchildren, Alta David, and Jeffery David; his grandchildren, Brannigan Harman, Morgan Melancon, Scout Melancon, Nole Melancon, and Gia Melancon; step-grandchildren, Taylor David, Braxton David, Sadie David, Erin Boudreaux, and Blaise Langlinais; and siblings, Johnny Melancon, Delores "Del" Darby and her husband Dee, Dot Diesi, and Marty Melancon.

Randy is preceded in death by his parents, LeeRoy and Gloria Melancon; his brother, Ricky Melancon; his grandson, Lochlan Harman; Suzanne C. Melancon, the mother of his children; and Lynn Melancon.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Patricia Boudreaux, Del Melancon, Dot Diesi, Billy "Botch" Richard, Norma Melancon, and Alta David for their love, care, and support.
