Glen Knoblock Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Muir Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center - Romeo on Oct. 1, 2024.
Glen Thomas Knoblock, age 66, passed away at home September 29, 2024. He was born in Detroit to Sylvester and Nancy (Kincaid) Knoblock. He graduated from Armada High School in 1976 where he was the quintessential all-star athlete; lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. While in highschool, he met his future wife Helen Ireland, and they were married on August 12, 1977 in Armada. They started out married life in Utica, eventually settling in Romeo, MI where they raised their 2 children, Kristen and Glen aka "Skinny". They remained committed to each other for almost 50 years until his death.
Glen attended Macomb Community College where he received an associates degree. He started working for Ford Motor company at the age of 18, where he held many jobs before becoming an electrician. He later earned his Master Electrician designation. He was a hard worker. At one point, he was working 7 days a week, going to school, and building a new house. It was fun times in the Knoblock household that year, especially with two teenagers! He retired from the Ford Utica Trim Plant at age 48, but continued working on contract until the closure of the plant a few years later. One of his favorite retirement activities was meeting his fellow retirees for coffee at Mcdonald's. He got a kick out of receiving the senior discount, being that he was the youngest person there at barely 50.
Glen enjoyed the outdoors. He was a golfer but also an avid hunter; traveling out West for mule deer and elk, Canada for bear, but mostly he enjoyed up North in the Ubly area near extended family. He enjoyed traveling to Europe, Mexico, Las Vegas, Alaska, Hawaii, and many other places in the US. He tried to share his love of Civil War history with his children including the infamous vacation traveling to various battle sites AKA "grassy fields with a memorial." While not enjoyable at the time, it is now a cherished family memory. He also enjoyed trips to Pt. Austin for the annual Knoblock family reunion. He liked spending time with his cousins.
He was a proud grandpa who loved to play ball, cars, babies and games with his grandchildren. He liked to sit and read to them when they were little. He would have loved to have been able to take his grandsons golfing. He attended sporting and dance events when he could. He taught them how to tie shoes, worked on their cars (and didn't charge them like he did with his kids!), shared his desserts and snacks, sometimes unwillingly.
He was a family man who would drop everything to help out the people he loved. He would fix their cars, loan a car when they visited so they could save some money, take people to the airport, help his nephew with his new house, reroof his mother's house, teach his niece to drive a stick, the list goes on and on.
Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife Helen, children Kristen (Paul) Granowicz of Plymouth, Glen Knoblock of Ann Arbor; grandchildren Tiffany (Brad) Finch, Alyssa, Joshua, Katelyn, and Eli Glen Granowicz; great grandchildren Quinn and Keegan Finch. Also surviving, siblings Mark Knoblock, Michael (Christine) Knoblock, John (Linda) Knoblock, Paul (Kelly) Knoblock, Andrea (Charles) Claerhout, and Patrick (Bonnie) Knoblock. Siblings in law Stewart (Kristy) Ireland, Suzanne (John) Guttowsky, Paula Ireland, Angela (Bob) Mertens, Catherine (Ron) Plichta, Mary Jo (Mike) Pezzini, Marcia (Rob) Pingel-Golab, Christopher (Lisa) Ireland, and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother in law Mary Ellen Ireland, Father in law Stewart Ireland, Brother in law Stephen Ireland.
Funeral Arrangements are pending. Memorial donations may be made to the Armada High School Athletic Department.

I just saw this, Mike. So sorry for your loss. I remember your brother well from our time in Armada, and you as well! We are doing well. The Eyths live down the road on Tawas Bay also... God bless! Karlene.

Glen played Basketball and baseball for me at Armada HS. He was a great team player and worked hard to help the team.
After he graduated he played on my men's softball tournament team. He played outfield and caught and ran down some real hit balls. He was dedicated to his sports and worked hard on his playing time.
I felt that Helen and Glen made a great couple and sure he had a beautiful family. May he rest is peace and he will always be remember!.
I pray for Helen and family for their loss.

Glen was always good to his MIL! Cutting her grass, taking care of her car. Always ready to help a family member or friend. Through good and not so good Glen was there. The world lost a good man.
