Daniel “Danny” F. Masko, age 88, an 18-year resident of Washington, Michigan, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Danny was born February 15, 1938, in Hamtramck, Michigan, the son of Stephen and Helen E. (Patro) Masko. Danny loved Hamtramck and later was a frequent visitor to the many activities and restaurants of the city.
After graduating from Hamtramck High School in 1955, Danny attended the University of Detroit, obtaining a bachelor’s degree of Art and Education. He then continued his education there, obtaining his Masters Degree in Mathematics and History. As an educator for over 35 years at Columbus Middle School, generations of Detroit students walked into his classroom unsure of themselves but walked out knowing they were capable of more than they imagined. On June 30, 1962, he married Diane M. Tomczyk at the Queen of Apostles Church. Danny enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Far East, and was an avid photographer and gardener. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his 7 grandchildren whom he adored.
Danny is survived by his wife, Diane Masko of Washington, children, Linda (Steve) Sly of Grass Lake, Stephen (Stephanie) Masko of Rochester Hills, Karen (Chuck) Skowronski of Romeo, grandchildren, Shauna Sly, Jackie (Josh) Sly-Wood, Nicholas Sly, Lauren (Joseph) Szymanski, Danny Masko, Haley (Michael) Szymanski, and Gillian Skowronski. Danny was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan, in 1993.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 6, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home in Romeo. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, 10:00 AM at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St Jude, or Tunnel to Towers.
