Glen Kreikemeier Obituary

Glen Arthur Kreikemeier

July 17, 1948 – October 25, 2023

Glen Arthur Kreikemeier of Dodge, Nebraska, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023, due to prostate cancer. Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge with Rev. Walter Jong-A-Kiem as celebrant. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with lunch following at the church hall. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 5 p.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to Dodge Fire and Rescue, Dodge VFW, or St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home.

Glen was born July 17, 1948, in West Point, Nebraska, to Arthur and Bernice (Liekhus) Kreikemeier. He was a proud life-long resident of Dodge and could be relied upon for a helping hand. He graduated from Dodge High School in 1966 and only left his home to serve his country as a Combat Medic in the Vietnam War from February of 1970 to March of 1971. Upon returning home, he loved giving people a hard time and making memories over a Busch Light at the Merry Martini.

Glen was blessed in life with two loving wives. He and Elizabeth (Betty) Baumert were united in marriage on June 15, 1974, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Aloys, Nebraska. They welcomed a beloved daughter, Tracy.

Glen and Rose Wortmann were married May 27, 1978, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bow Valley, Nebraska. The couple added five more children to their family and weathered many of life's ups and downs in their 40 years of marriage.

Glen was a life-long farmer, growing field crops and previously raising hogs. He has blessed his children with many great memories of summer Great Pig Roundups with cousins staying out at the farm and with grandkids helping to harvest. He loved his grandkids and delighted in tickling and teasing them and giving them tractor rides. Much to the chagrin of his children, he loved letting them drive vehicles that were just a little too big for them. In his words, "they were advanced."

Glen found a lot of joy in traveling. He loved a good road trip in his Mustang convertible, especially if he could beat the GPS. He and Rose took many trips with Linda and Dan and particularly loved visiting Hawaii. He, his siblings, and the remaining in-laws took a trip to Australia and New Zealand, which was a bucket list destination for him. And, of course, he cherished the many adventures of the infamous annual Kreikemeier Family Vacation (KFV).

He will be deeply missed by many.

Glen is survived by: his children and their families: Tracy (Chris) Vogel, Oliver and Sloane of Leawood, Kansas, Jerad Kreikemeier, Chloe, Kayden, and Tucker of Lincoln, Michelle Kosmacek, Gavin and Izabella of Overland Park, Kansas, Shana (Doug) Schasteen, Noble, Roman, and Rosalie of Seattle, and Jennifer Kreikemeier of Lincoln; siblings, Phyllis Sellhorst, Linda Legband, Gary (Becky) Kreikemeier, Joyce (Dan) Keller; in-laws, Sharon (Perry) Klein, Charlotte (Dave) Reifert, Geralda (Rick) Heikes, Sue (Dan) Thomas, Carol Wortmann, Charles (Tina) Wortmann, Tony (Mary) Wortmann, Ron (Danette) Wortmann, Fred Wortmann, Joe (Sue) Wortmann, Randy (Marla) Wortmann, Allen Baumert, Randy (Karen) Baumert, and Jim Baumert; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Betty (Jan. 10, 1977) and Rose (Dec. 16, 2018); daughter, Ronni Kreikemeier (Oct. 15, 2021); parents-in-law, Pauline and Wilbert Baumert, Irene and Francis Wortmann; brothers-in-law, Daniel Legband, Bob Sellhorst and David Wortmann; and sister-in-law, Connie Wortmann.

As his granddaughter, remembering watching him pass was the second hardest thing in the world, it was hard to watch him go, he was an amazing grandfather and tho i was not as close to him as i was Rose krekemier, he was always there on the farm, he was one of the best people in my life and i take his morals to heart.
