Glen Marion McConnell, 84, of Sulphur, Louisiana, passed away in a local hospital on February 22nd, 2026. Born in Spiceland, Indiana, he was a devoted husband of more than 60 years to Mary Louise Stone McConnell and a loving father to his three children, Marcia, Michael and Martha, a beloved Pawpaw to Macy and Drake and a great Pawpaw to Ezlynn and Javixx.

As the oldest boy of nine children, growing up on a farm in rural Indiana, he learned the value of hard work and the love of family. He graduated from St. Paul High School in 1959 and joined the Air Force. He served four years as an electrical and instrument specialist, working on U2 spy planes and was an active participant in the Cuban Missile Crisis military response team. While he was in the Air Force he met his future wife, Mary, while he was stationed in Del Rio, Texas.

After his honorable discharge he married and settled down as a long-time resident of Calcasieu Parish. Living in Vinton and Sulphur he was an active Boy Scout Leader before having his own children. Glen and his family made Westlake their home for more than twenty years, where Glen went to work at Continental Oil in the instrument and electrical department. When he retired after 30 years of service, where everyone knew him as “Mac” he was the supervisor of the department and the company had become Vista Chemical, and is now Sasol.

Upon retirement he moved north of Sulphur, bought a piece of land and personally built his home of today. Glen was one of those men who can build or fix anything, a talent that earned him the nickname Whiz. He adored his grandchildren and loved to share his wisdom, experiences and knowledge of almost everything with anyone. He was known for his great stories that always contained a lesson or two.

Having grown up on a farm, he loved antique farm equipment, tractors, engines and tools. He was the president of the local Power of the Past chapter for several years and enjoyed restoring his many antique tractors and engines. He also enjoyed building and flying model planes. He flew models at the Larks model airfield for many years with his son, son-in-law and grandson.

He loved camping, fishing and spending time with family and friends on the water and had camps on Barnes Creek and the West Fork of the Calcasieu River for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise (Stone) McConnell, his children Marcia Lynn (McConnell) Ozdenvar, her husband Turgut Ozdenvar, both of Cypress, Texas, his son Michael Wayne McConnell and his daughter Martha Gail McConnell, both of Sulphur, Louisiana. His grandchildren, Macy Lavelle McConnell of Keota, Oklahoma and Drake Marion McConnell of Spiro, Oklahoma. His siblings, James Edwin McConnell, Betty Ann (McConnell) Keifer and her husband Charles Kiefer all of Greensburg, Indiana. Brenda Joyce (McConnell) Brindley of Westport, Indiana and Mary Jane (McConnell) Alexander and her husband Michael Alexander of Columbus, Indiana.

A commemorative celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 28th, 2026 at the Managan Center in Westlake, Louisiana from 1-4p. Request for favorite memories and/or photos of Glen to be shared at [email protected] in lieu of flowers.
