Glen "Red" Nelson was born on December 3, 1927 to Ivy and Norman Nelson in Shelby, MT. He passed away peacefully on July 16 with his wife and daughter by his side.

Red graduated from Shelby High School in 1946. After graduation, he enlisted in the military. When his service was over, he returned to Shelby and began his 45 year career with Montana Dakota Utilities which changed to Montana Power Company.  In the fall of 1956, he married Carol Pilgrim and started his family.

Red is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carol; sons, Mike (Kari) of Polson, Norman(Treva) of Shelby; daughter, Teri (Dale) White of Shelby; six grandchildren, Thad White, Laura(Coltin) Sweeney, JoanAne (Ty) Hoffman, Justin(Jayleen) Nelson, Cody Nelson, and Hannah Nelson; great grandchildren, Carol Anne and Zoe Lynn White, Carston and Olivia Sweeney, Gavin and Liam Hoffman, Oran and Dax Nelson; his sister, Glenda (Dave) Negrones of Bremerton WA.

He is preceded in death by his parents and all of his beloved pets (Puddles, Skip, Sam, Pooh, Mat the Cat, Sophie).

He was active in high School sports, going on to play football in college, and this led to a lifelong love of sports. Whether it was boxing or golf, football or basketball, he watched it all. He was a proud fan of the Shelby Coyotes, rarely missing a home game or tournament.

After retirement, mom and dad tried the snowbird life, quickly finding that it wasn't for them, because he liked to be home where his favorite recliner was. Most summer days he could be found at the golf course where he had to get his golfing in before 9:00 AM. Coffee with his cronies on the weekday mornings was a must. When it came to his house and lawn he was a perfectionist, everything was neat and tidy. We all knew if you weren't using something he would get rid of it, a minimalist for sure. If dad had a job to do, it was never put off until tomorrow, it was done!

After a short illness in 2019, he was admitted to the Shelby Nursing Home where he remained until his passing. We would like to thank the many Doctors and staff that took care of dad for the past 6 years.

No services will be held per Red's request.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to your favorite charity.
