GLEN E. VETTERKIND, age 79, of Thorp, WI, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Clark County Rehab & Living Center in Owen, WI. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Thorp. Rev. Phil Beukema will officiate, and inurnment will follow in Sylvan Cemetery, rural Thorp. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, March 21st from 5pm to 7pm, and again on Saturday from 9am until time of service.
Glen Elmer Vetterkind was born on April 22, 1945 in Stanley, WI, to Elmer C. and Ada M. (Lewin) Vetterkind. He was raised on the family farm and attended the Colby Rural School in the Town of Reseburg. After completing his education, Glen served in the U.S. Navy until being honorably discharged. He returned home and worked at Longwood Cheese Factory, and later attended a diesel driving school in Madison. He was united in marriage to Diane K. Person on June 1, 1974 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Thorp. He took over the operation of his family's farm. Throughout his working career Glen has held various jobs, including, National Presto, Inc. in Eau Claire, Grassland Dairy in Greenwood, hauled milk for Richie Haas, and worked at Smith Feeds in Loyal, all while operating his farm. In 1999, he sold his cows and went to work full-time for the Township of Reseburg, where he was the grader operator for more than 40 years.
Glen was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Thorp American Legion.
He had many interests, but especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, canning foods, the Green Bay Packers, and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Glen will be dearly missed by his wife, Diane, of Thorp, WI; five children: Rebecca (Jason) Franzen of Thorp, WI, Chad (Jackie) Vetterkind of Oronoco, MN, Travis (Iris) Vetterkind of Hubert, NC, Kyle (Jinell) Vetterkind of Thorp, WI, and Kaleena (Matthew) Frazee of Cadott, WI; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Jane Elwood of Thorp, WI, and Jean Larson (Lynn Marquart) of Chippewa Falls, WI; 2 brothers: Leonard (Marilyn) Vetterkind of Thorp, WI, and Vernon (Donna) Vetterkind of Rothschild, WI; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Elmer A. Vetterkind in infancy; and four sisters: Louise Vetterkind in infancy, Eleanor Casalez, Lila Gwidt, and Carol Vetterkind.
