Glen E. Wheeler, a respected and beloved figure in his community, peacefully departed this life on February 1, 2025, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas

Born on October 5, 1938, in Rural Thayer, Kansas, Glen lived a life rich in accomplishments, dedication, and love. Glen graduated from Thayer High School in 1958 and later explored his educational pursuits at Neosho County Community College.

Glen married the love of his life Sharon Rehmert on December 19, 1959, at Thayer Christian Church in Thayer, Kansas. Sharon preceded him in death in November of 2024. He devoted many years of his professional life as a Plant Supervisor for HBD before enjoying a well-earned retirement. Glen was known for his honest and humble demeanor; he was truly a man of his word, embodying the values he cherished deeply throughout his life.

The family was at the heart of Glen's existence. He is survived by his children: Jeff (Karen) Wheeler of Chanute, Kansas; Sharene (Kyle) White of Oxford, Kansas; and Greg (Kim) Wheeler of Paola, Kansas. His legacy continues through his eight grandchildren—Abby Church, Lindsey Peters, Gabe Sheerer, Katie Meek, Nick Wheeler, Hunter Wheeler, Cole Wheeler, and Jessica House—as well as seven great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life. Glen is also survived by his siblings: Charles Wheeler of Galesburg, KS; Sara Essig of Thayer, KS; Mary Stevenson of Gridley, KS; Sue Bean of Chanute, KS; Gary Wheeler of Chanute, KS; and Steve Wheeler of Thayer, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Stan and Ed Wheeler, two grandsons, Jeremy and Jeffrey Wheeler, and a great-grandson Dylan Peters.

Glen was passionate about many pursuits. His love of life was evident in his enthusiasm for sports, particularly his unwavering support for the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas Jayhawks basketball, and Kansas City Chiefs. He enjoyed the camaraderie of coaching little league, hunting and fishing, and playing cards with family, where the stakes often included bragging rights. These activities reflected not only his interests but also the genuine affection he held for the moments shared with loved ones.

He eagerly anticipated reuniting with his beloved wife, Sharon, who preceded him in death in November 2024. Glen’s health journey led him to this final chapter, where he embraced the idea of being with her once more.

In remembering Glen E. Wheeler, we celebrate a life devoted to family, integrity, and joy. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.

Memorials are suggested to Thayer Summer Rec and can be left with or mailed to the funeral home.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Thayer Christian Church, Thayer, Kansas, followed by a Memorial Service in Glen’s Honor at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Thayer City Cemetery.
