Glenda Ellis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Adcock Funeral Home - Spring Lake on Mar. 28, 2026.
Glenda Jo Adams Ellis, 80, of Eastover, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on March 25, 2026.

Born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Jo attended Stedman High School and went on to make history as the first female grain inspector for the state of North Carolina. She was a trailblazer in her field and a woman of remarkable strength and independence.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Adams and Janie Register Adams; her son, Harleigh D. Ellis; and her siblings, Braxton Adams, Janice Adams Young, Tharrell D. Adams, and Michael Adams.

She is survived by her son, Tony R. Ellis Jr. Of Fowler, California; her siblings, Ruth Adams Hickmon of Jacksonville, Florida, Roger Adams (Vivian), and Susan Adams Warren (Lee), both of Fayetteville; her grandchildren, Ciara Ellis Crane (Zack) of Lillington, Sandie Jo Ellis, and William "Woody" Ellis; and her great-grandchildren, Harvey, Naomi, and Cecilia Crane.

Jo was well known throughout her community and truly never met a stranger. She lived her life guided by her favorite Bible passage, 1 Corinthians 13, embodying patience, kindness, and unconditional love in everything she did. She had a gift for bringing people together and made everyone feel seen, heard, and cared for.

She had a special place in her heart for those in need-whether they were stray animals or people who needed a little extra love-and she welcomed them all with open arms. Known for her beautiful red hair, stunning jewelry, and impeccable sense of style, Jo carried herself with both grace and personality.

She found joy in gardening, shopping, chatting with friends, and was a wonderful listener who never forgot a face or a story. Above all, Jo loved her family deeply, and that love will continue to live on through them.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no formal memorial service. Ciara and family will gather for a graveside burial at Cross Creek Cemetery on April 6th at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cumberland County Animal Shelter in honor of Jo's lifelong compassion for animals.

Glenda Jo Adams Ellis will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
