GLENDA HARMEYER Obituary

GLENDA ARLENE HARMEYER, 76, formerly of rural Columbia City, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, 3:01 p.m., at her home following her return from a European vacation. Born Nov. 8, 1944, at Luckey Hospital in Wolf Lake, Ind., she was a daughter of the late Chalmer and Mabel J. (Gross) Smith. Growing up in the Huntertown area, she graduated from Huntertown High School. She then completed Ravenscroft Beauty College in Fort Wayne, becoming a licensed beautician. On May 29, 1965, she married Richard Lee Harmeyer. They made their first home in Arcola, later moving to Jefferson Township, Whitley County; Richard died on Oct. 16, 2004. She owned and operated Harmeyer House Beauty Salon until her retirement in 2018. Also, she drove a school bus for Southwest Allen County Schools for over 25 years. She liked to work out and stay physically fit, often participating in Zumba classes. Enjoying traveling, she had spent time in Europe, Australia, Central America, and throughout the United States. Active with grandchildren, she regularly attended their school events. With her friends, she played Bunco and belonged to a stamp club that made greeting cards for others. Surviving are her daughters, Monica (Michael) Kline of Fort Wayne and Marla (Jason) Wigent of Columbia City; grandchildren, Trey (Kendra) Kline of Pierceton, Teryn Kline of Fort Wayne, Jayla (Brachen) Hazen of Columbia City, and Jacob Wigent of Columbia City; and a sister, Luana (Lowell) Felger of Arcola. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 7914 West Cook Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour before the service. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at the Oak Grove Cemetery.
