Glenda J. Shafer, 69, of Cortland went home to be with her Lord at 5:25 PM Friday October 28, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Health Center following a lengthy illness. She was born July 23, 1942 in Warren the daughter of Glen and Wanda (Stout) Leatherberry. Glenda was a lifetime area resident and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1961. She was employed as an administrative assistant at the Wean Corporation, as a secretary for the Trumbull County Planning Commission, and as an administrative assistant at the YSU Dana School of Music retiring in 1982. Glenda loved spending time with her friends and family. She was a good cook and liked to entertain in her home. She enjoyed gardening and traveling and was a faithful member of the Leavittsburg Church of God. Her beloved husband, Ray M. Shafer Jr. whom she married June 16, 1962 preceded her in death Sept.4, 2006. She also was preceded in death her parents and a sister Daryl Leatherberry. She will be deeply missed by a daughter Helan Shafer of Champion, 3 caregivers; Janet Fitz of Cortland, Charlotte Noble of Cortland, Lucia Martin of Warren, and her devoted sheltie “Skylar”. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday Nov. 1, 2011 at the Leavittsburg Church of God where friends will be received from 6-8 Monday and for 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Pastor Collin Roberts will officiate. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery Cortland, Ohio. Material contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market St. Youngstown, OH 44512 or to the Leavittsburg Church of God 610 S. Leavitt Rd. 44430. Roberts-Clark Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
