Dodge City – Glenda Fern Steininger, 84, passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 17, 2025, from a short, but courageously fought battle with lung cancer, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Lesa and Frank Meis, in Greeley, Colorado. Glenda was born January 7, 1941 in Couch, Missouri to Hubert and Opal (Alford) Bennett. She was the exact middle of nine children.
After completing eighth grade, she moved to Kansas City, MO to work with her sister. Glenda then moved to Dodge City, Kansas at the urging of her brother, Clinton Bennett. She met and married Theron Lees. Together they had one son, Theron Joe Lees. After their divorce, Glenda met Raymond Steininger while she was working at Jack's Café. On June 15, 1961, Glenda married Raymond, the love of her life and they celebrated 52 years together. She gained four sons and a daughter. Together they had two more sons and a daughter.
Raymond and Glenda owned and operated the successful Steininger Truckline for over thirty years. They had a great reputation for dependability and honesty.
Glenda was known for her wonderful vegetable and flower gardens. She was an excellent cook and well known for her canned tomatoes, pickles and pickled beets. Her hummingbird cakes were a family favorite! Glenda and Raymond were longtime members of Wilroads Gardens Christian Church. Glenda enjoyed the singing of the old hymns and fellowship with her neighbors.
Glenda was a breast cancer survivor, twice! Her life is a testament to unwavering faith, bravery and wisdom. We celebrate a life well-lived, marked by dedication to family. Her kind, courageous and wise spirit will endure forever in those she touched.
She is survived by her sons Mike of Elbert, Colorado, Terry and wife Conni of Salina, Kansas, Paul and wife Cindy of Hulbert, Oklahoma and Theron Joe Lees of Dodge City, one daughter, Lesa and husband Frank Meis of Greeley, Colorado, one brother Jim Bennett of Mountain View, Missouri, and many grand and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, one daughter Nancy Konrade, three sons Raymond Lee Jr., David and Tim Steininger, four sisters Pauline Martin, Frances Frisbee, Lois Baxley and Carolyn Montgomery, three brothers, Clifford, Clinton and Phillip Bennett, and two grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at the former Wilroads Gardens Christian Church on Monday January 27, 2025 at 10:00 AM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
