Glenda Sue Rachal VanHook was born to Paul Rachal, Jr. and Myrtle Rachal Kramer in Natchitoches, Louisiana on November 2, 1947. She was a lifelong resident of Natchitoches. Sue attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and graduated from Natchitoches High School in 1965. She earned a certificate in shorthand and secretarial studies. Sue married her childhood friend, Walter VanHook, in 1967. They had three daughters Michelle, Kim and Paula. It was her greatest joy to be a mother and homemaker.
Sue was a legal secretary for former judge and family friend, Monty Doggett. She was a longtime member of Faith Living Word Fellowship and River of Life Family Worship Center. Sue was a loving and devoted caregiver to her mother, sisters and numerous other family members. Sue was an avid reader and supporter of Natchitoches Parish Library. She was passionate about genealogy and history and was proud that her family were original French settlers in Natchitoches. Sue enjoyed being a tour guide to friends and family who visited her hometown.
Sue was known as a woman of deep faith, a student of the Bible, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and faithful friend. If you knew her, it is likely she shared her faith and prayed for you, cooked a meal, baked a lemon cake or made pecan cookies for you.
Sue will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Michelle VanHook of Tyler, Texas, Kim Camp of Tyler, Texas and Paula Schindall (married to Adam) of Frisco, Texas. She was known as Nanny to her grandchildren Grace Camp, Jacob Schindall, John Walker Camp and Sarah Schindall. Also honoring her memory are her beloved nephews Paul and David VanHook and their families.
