Glenn Brem Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 17, 2025.
We joyfully grieve the loss of our beloved Dad, Papa, Great-Grampa, Uncle and friend as Glenn Brem joined his wife of 76 years, Muriel, his oldest daughter Christina, and oldest son Rich in Heaven. Glenn passed peacefully on June 3rd at his Merrill Gardens home in Gilroy.
Glenn was the oldest of two sons born to Richard and May Brem and spent his entire life in Gilroy. He entered his Freshman Year at the age of 12 (Muriel liked Glenn and by their Senior Year she was quite smitten with this tall and handsome man), and he and Muriel both graduated from Gilroy High School in 1942, at the age of 16. Pearl Harbor had been attacked the previous December and Glenn attempted to join the Marines at 16. He was told he was too young to join, so the day he turned 17 he enlisted in the Marine Corps. What followed in the next three years included beach landings on Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian and eventually Okinawa. After a month of heavy fighting on Okinawa, Glenn was severely wounded in his back and left shoulder and was sent home. Muriel was waiting for him and they married after his return in 1945.
Chris arrived in 1946, followed by Vicki in 1948, Rich in 1949, Ed in 1950 (the three middle children were born within 22 months of each other!) and Peggy in 1954. Their family of 7 was now complete and hectic!! Glenn farmed with his father until his father Rich passed in 1953. He worked many years for Driscoll Strawberries, but spent his later working years working for Gilroy Lumber.
Glenn's family and friends in Gilroy and surrounding areas were lifelong companions, hunting buddies, Pedro/Poker partners. Once Glenn's friend, always Glenn's friend! He was a surrogate "father" to many sons of his friends who had passed and was Uncle Glenn to numerous cousins! At Merrill Gardens, his happiest two days of the week were his Poker Game days and the friends he made in those years.
While Glenn joined Muriel, Chris and Rich (his heavenly part of the family), he leaves his children Vicki (Stan) Ciraulo, Ed (Jane) Brem, Peggy (Jeff) Fischer, Trish (Rich) Brem, 15 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces and a plethora of lifelong friends.
Glenn was a gift to all who were blessed to know him and he will be profoundly missed. In lieu of flowers, Glenn would have been honored to have donations made to Tunnels to Towers or Wounded Warriors in his name.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
