Glenn Chance Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Richardson's Benson Mortuary on Oct. 10, 2024.
Alice Glenn Penick was born to Benjamin Joel Penick and Mildred Jessie Penick (Coakley) in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1933 and at age 4 moved with her family to Denver, Colorado where she attended Boulevard School, Lake Junior High, North High School and Rockmont College (now Colorado Christian University).
She met Wiley Chance, a high school teacher and coach, at church, and they were married from 1953 until his passing in 2018. They had 2 children, Patricia Lynn Mansfield of Boulder, Colorado, and Roger of Orlando, Florida. Following Wiley's retirement from teaching in 1984, the couple moved to Saint David, while spending summers in Wyoming until 2011.
Glenn was an artist and musician from Junior High school throughout her life. She was a vocalist, sang in and directed choirs at various churches, and played piano and violin. In the late 1950s she was a Patricia Stevens model. She was a prolific painter and was a member of the Tombstone Art Guild for many years in the 1990s where she served for a time as Director. Many of her paintings were sold and are displayed throughout the area.
She was a devoted and loving mother to her children and served as a Cub Scout den mother 1967-68. She re-entered the workforce in the early 1970s as a retail manager. In 1973 she was the first woman to be named President of the Villa Italia Shopping Center Merchant's Association, one of the major shopping malls in the Denver area. She retired from retail in 1984. In retirement she taught adult Sunday school. She was a great woman of God and a spiritual mother to many.
In nearly 65 years of marriage, Glenn and Wiley traveled the globe, visiting every continent and dozens of countries. United Kingdom and New Zealand were among her favorite places. She continued painting until the late 2010s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Ben. She is survived by her brother, Richard Penick of Saint David, sister Debra Kirchmeier of Wilcox, two children, three grandsons - David Mansfield, Justin Mansfield, and Chris Chance - and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth. But her most treasured relationship was with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who she eagerly joined in Heaven.
She will be interred with her husband at the Sierra Vista Veterans' Cemetery.
