Glenn Hinkle Obituary

Glenn Ray Hinkle Sr., 71, of Kempton, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Glenn was born on July 29, 1954, to his parents, Donald Max Hinkle and Irma Ruth (Barnett) Hinkle. Glenn married Sandra (Deweese) Hinkle on Feb. 27, 1972. The two made a beautiful life together and enjoyed raising their wonderful children before Sandra passed away in 2001. Glenn remarried Leslie (Bowman) Hinkle on March 16, 2003. Glenn and Leslie shared 7 years together before Leslie passed away in 2010.
Glenn was simple and private by nature. He was the kind of person you could always count on; dependable, loyal, and strong. He worked tirelessly in fiberglass, masonry, construction, and pole barns. His skill set came from a lifetime of hands-on experience. His life was grounded in perseverance, resilience, and pride. He provided well for his family and set a lasting example for them. Few people knew that Glenn could not read. He faced the challenge of complex dyslexia. He never let this define him. This struggle actually made him stronger in many ways.
Glenn found joy and peace outdoors, hunting and fishing with his brothers and grandsons. For over 25 years, he and his brothers helped John Martino lead the Jim "Moose" Carden Kids Fishing Clinic at Kokomo Reservoir, passing on the joy of the outdoors and teaching children the value of patience and respect for nature. Glenn also personally taught all of his grandchildren gun safety. Showing them not just how to handle a weapon, but how to carry responsibly with care and wisdom.
He was naturally a mentor! He taught life's most important lessons through his actions. Through strength and humility, he showed up every single day for those he loved. Glenn leaves behind a legacy not of wealth or fame but of hard work, strength of character, quiet wisdom, and steadfast love. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Those left to carry on Glenn's legacy of love are his children, Sherri Haskett (Michael), Glenda Hinkle (Tony Minton), Glenn Hinkle Jr. (Kristina); grandchildren, Samantha Despain (Josh), Ashley Hinkle, Brittney Haskett (Zach Young), Steven Roa, CJ Haskett (Alexis), Blake Hinkle (Kenzie), Chase Roa, Katelyn Stutzman (Braydon), Shelby Overdorf (Sam), Kaylee Piske (Evan), Collin Hughes (Claire Boyer), Gatlin Hinkle; and 16 great grandchildren (with several more on the way); siblings, Don Hinkle (Vickie), Gary Hinkle (Glenn's best friend); Deritha McKee (Dennis), Hink Hinkle (Sharon), Danny Hinkle (Bridget). Glenn is also survived by additional extended family, including: several step-siblings, 2 step-children, 6 step-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Glenn was preceded in death by his father, Donald Hinkle; stepmother, Patricia Hinkle; mother, Irma Barnett; wife, Sandra (Deweese) Hinkle; wife, Leslie (Bowman) Hinkle; brother, David Hinkle; and sister-in-law, Linda Hinkle.
A service celebrating Glenn's life will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 1:00PM at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home, located at 314 N. Main St. in Tipton with Pastor Steve Brown officiating. A visitation for family and friends will take place prior to the service from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the funeral home. Burial will be held immediately following the service at Kempton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Glenn's honor can be made to the Howard County Kids Fishing Clinic. Donations can be mailed to John Martino at 12825 W. 100 N. Kokomo, IN 46901.
Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home is honored to serve Glenn's family in their time of need. Please feel free to leave an online condolence or share a special memory of Glenn with his family on his tribute wall.
