Mr. Glenn V. Jones, 93, of Waycross, GA passed away on November 1, 2024. Born on July 31, 1931 in Isabella (Chilton County), AL, he lived most of his life in Waycross, GA where he was a devoted husband, loving father, and beloved "Papa."
Above all else, Glenn had a strong and abiding relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was known for his character, faithfulness, and commitment to those he cared for. Glenn was a patriot and proudly served his country as a pilot in the United States Air Force for 3 years where he was honorably discharged. He then went on to serve in the Air National Guard of Georgia. He graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, where he obtained a degree in Agriculture Science and later earned a Master's Degree in Education from Western Carolina University. Glenn was an educator and a principal for over 30 years where he was greatly respected for his leadership and advocacy on behalf of his students, staff, and teachers. Glenn was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Waycross where he faithfully served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and leader. He was a pillar in the Waycross community where he served in the Civitan Men's Club in addition to serving on multiple local Boards.
Glenn is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Barbara Crispin Jones, children Renee Jones (Brian) Thomason and Alan Jones; grandchildren Emily Grace (Jake) Cole, Peter Brian (Taylor) Thomason, and Christopher Glenn Thomason; and great-grandchildren Ben Thomason, Tim Thomason, and Thomas Cole; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezekiel Span Jones and Novice Woolley Jones of Chilton County, AL and siblings Andrew (Willie Mae) Jones, Forestdale, AL; Chalmus (Mary) Jones, Ocala, FL; Lloyd (Marilyn) Jones, Decatur, AL; and Sara Nell (Coy) Rasberry, Jemison, AL.
Celebration of Life will be held graveside at Greenlawn Cemetery, Waycross, GA, on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 10:00am (EST) with visitation at 9:45am (EST) with Rev. Mark Williams officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org, or Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, GA 31501.
