Glenn Langley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home and Crematory on Aug. 14, 2024.
Glenn Dale Langley, 88, passed away on July 3, 2024, in his home in Palm Harbo, FL of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Helen Langley of Arkansas City, KS. He was born in Ralston, OK and grew up in Arkansas City.
After High School, Glenn joined the United States Navy and served from 1954-1958. He was a Radioman Second Class serving as a classified documents courier in the Pacific Fleet. Following the Navy, he served in the US Army Reserve for two years.
He moved to Kansas City in 1960 and was married to Nancy Mills in 1961. Glenn worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a Project Accounting Manager in the Civil Engineering Department until 1969. He then joined Alexander Proudfoot as Management Consultant specializing in Manufacturing Efficiencies. He would later join W.R. Lamb and Associates where he provided workforce and inventory efficiency solutions to grocery and drug store chains in North America and Europe.
In 1991, he moved to Largo, FL to become a full-time consultant for AARP Pharmacy. He spearheaded the original mail order pharmacy operations by re-organizing the nationwide network of warehouses. In 1997, he joined Transitions Optical to streamline the production and distribution of prescription lenses.
Upon his arrival in Florida, he immediately spent his leisure time running, biking, playing beach volleyball and paddle boarding. He could easily be found on the Pinellas County Trail biking and running or on Clearwater Beach playing volleyball. In the late 90s, he took up scuba diving and earned his Open Water Dive Certificate. He was particularly fond of diving on Florida's East Coast. Never shying away from a challenge, he enjoyed sky diving and soaring in gliders.
In 2003, he came out of retirement and joined the Pinellas County Sherrif's Department as a Crossing Guard. Over his 17 years serving the community, he was promoted into a leadership role and remained committed to the safety of the hundreds of elementary age children before and after school. For many, he was the kindhearted grandfather figure that was attentive to their stories and enjoyed the friendships he created with them and their parents.
Glenn was a proud patriot who carried his love of country and community each day following his military service. He was a proud member of the VFW, a supporter of the USO, and Bay Pines Veterans Health Center. He gave back to his community by donating blood and plasma in Kansas and Florida to eclipse the 100-gallon milestone.
As a father, he mastered the rigorous task of balancing weekly travel and supporting and engaging in school activities, sports, and being a role model. It was not uncommon to see him arrive in a taxi, carrying his luggage, wearing a coat and tie to attend a baseball game in the summer heat of Kansas. He became a homework tutor while talking long distance on weekdays regardless of his time zone. Above all, he was present and in the moment no matter where he might be in the world.
He was a proud father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He leaves his son Glen and daughter-in-law Anita of The Woodlands, TX; his granddaughter Shelby Wadswoth of San Francisco, CA; his brother Leslie Langley of Wellington, KS; his sister Gail (Hobie) Ammerman of Derby, KS. He will be missed by the countless people he touched each day.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T.org)
A Memorial Service for Glenn will be held Saturday August 24, 2024, at 10:30am at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, 100 E Kansas Ave, Arkansas City, KS 67005.

I fell in "puppy love" with Glenn when I was 11 or 12. Of course it was not reciprocated as I was way too young for him. He was 13 or 14. He and his friend, Ray Chapman liked older "women". 72 years later Ray and drove to Palm Harbor to visit Glenn. Had a ball talking about old times. R. I. P. My friend, you were quite a guy .
