Glenn “Garn” Larkin, age 97, passed away on February 1, 2026, in Kaysville, Utah. He was born at home on December 4, 1928, in Snowville, Utah, the son of Reed Elwood Larkin and Uarda Garn Larkin.

In his early years, Garn lived in Snowville and on a dry-farm in Juniper, Idaho. He spent a lot of time in the remote Sawtooth National Forest, which was a short distance from the dry-farm. He worked, played, and camped there. He shared those mountains and valleys with family, friends, and many scouts. It was his favorite place to be.

As a young boy, he attended school in Snowville. He was an alumnus of Bear River High School, graduating class of ’47.

After high school, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina. Upon returning from his mission, Garn married Thea Marie Tolman on February 11, 1953, and was immediately inducted into the Army to serve his country during the Korean War. He was a Corporal, stationed in Germany, where he worked as a medical assistant.

Garn and Thea were reunited after he returned from military service and together, they had eight children: Tressa, Raletta, Kyle, Roxene, Joy, Roger, Darin, and Tanya. Following the unexpected passing of Thea on January 9, 1972, Garn married Althera Louise Trost on November 16, 1972. They added two children to the family: Angie and Jory.

Garn raised his family in Snowville where he worked with his father raising cattle and farming the land. He had a second career driving bus for the Box Elder County School District. He drove about 90 miles per day between Snowville, Tremonton, and Garland. He retired after 28 years without any accidents.

Garn was an active member of the church, serving in many different callings. He especially enjoyed working in the scouting program. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for 65 years. He held several leadership positions and earned one of scouting’s highest awards, the Silver Beaver.

He passed his love of the mountains on to his children and grandchildren. He taught them wilderness camping and survival skills, creating many family memories through annual family campouts and time spent together in the mountains.

He will be remembered for the service he provided to friends and neighbors in the community.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Thea, his son, Kyle, and his daughter-in-law, Lisa.

He is survived by his wife, Althera, and his children: Tressa Humphrey (Craig), Raletta Wright (Joseph), Kyle-deceased (Marquetta), Roxene Madsen (Blake), Joy Nebeker (Gary), Roger (Monica), Darin (Becky), Tanya Hjorth (Michael), Angie, and Jory (Lisa-deceased), 26 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.

There will be a viewing at the Snowville L.D.S. church house on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, followed by brief remarks. Military honors and interment will take place at the Snowville Cemetery.
