Glenn Eugene Masimore died at his home on Monday, Jan. 30, 2023. Glenn was born on Sept. 13, 1928, at home, as the York Memorial Hospital was still under construction. He was the seventh child of Millard LeRoy Masimore and Gertrude Helen (Lawson) Masimore. He was employed by Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, also known as the A&P food store, from 1941 to 1976. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. and was stationed in Korea with the 101st Airborne Division (Infantry). He was known as the 'store computer,' due to his fantastic memory, and rose to the rank of night manager. Glenn and Lillian fostered over 30 "at risk" children in the Maryland foster system in their early adult lives. Glenn was a resident of Jefferson County since 2005, when he purchased his home from the widow of Dr. Perry McClellan, Jean, near the small enclave of Nash. He grew to love living in his adopted county. Of his nine siblings, Millard. Jr., Jesse, Paul, Pauline, Raymond, Ruth, Earl and June, he is the last to pass. He was 94 years old.
He leaves behind a plethora of family, friends and Christian brothers and sisters. He was sad to leave those dear to him, especially his caregivers, Patricia A. Sanzone and Joy Bolton Herring; his Christian friends, David and Donna Vanderlaan, Ralph Wrightstone, Melva Walker, Geoff Monge, the Monroes, and all people who attend the Waukeenah United Methodist Church,
Waukeenah, Fla.; his special grandfatherly mentoring trio of Jordan Eric Bolton, Julian Cole Bolton and Krystalynn Lanae Bolton; and his dear friend and officer of his non-profit fruit give-away business, Masimore Orchard, Inc., Charlie Randall, and Charlie's family. Glenn is also survived by six rescue kitties, whom he dearly loved.
He was predeceased in 1995 by his beloved wife of 48 years, Lillian Genevieve (Poe) Masimore. His daughter, Debra Lillian (Masimore) Ruff, passed away in 2004. His two grandchildren, Shelby Anne Ruff and Jeremy Robert Ruff, survive. Both live in Maryland.
A wake and memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Waukeenah United Methodist Church,
Waukeenah, Fla., beginning at 2 p.m. with a light buffet, eulogies and prayers, followed by a spiritual songfest beginning at 3:20 p.m. The family is asking for no flowers. In lieu, please consider donating to Snapp Happy Cat Sanctuary, through Debbie Snapp. Donations also are being sought through a funding site to send a six-person honor guard to
Hurlock, Md., from the Otto M. Walker Post 49 of the American Legion. Before covid, Glenn was the honorary marshal of the post's Veteran's Day Parade vehicle.
