Glenn Edward McDaid

1927 - 2024

Glenn Edward McDaid, 97, of Eighty Four, passed away Monday, October 28, 2024, in the Washington Hospital. He was born September 5, 1927, in Buffalo Village, a son of the late Joseph and Grace Meneely McDaid. Ed attended Canonsburg High School, but was drafted just before graduation. He served with the Army from November 1945 until November 1946. Mr. McDaid worked for 30 years for McGraw-Edison in Canonsburg, retiring in 1994. He spent time working on the railroad, worked for Studebaker at the Avanti plant in Ashtabula, Ohio, drove a school bus at different times for the Canon- McMillan and Bentworth school districtd and for GG&C Bus Co., drove a charter bus for Coach USA, and was a tandem axle dump truck driver hauling slag and coal. He enjoyed farming, tractors, trains and vacations with his wife and family. In his spare time, he liked to bake. On January 6, 1950, he married Dorothy Jane "Dot" Woodruff, who died July 10, 2020. Surviving are three children, Glenn E. McDaid Jr. (Rebecca), Debbie Gamble (Robert), and Lisa McDaid, all of Eighty Four; three granddaughters, Victoria Schury (Charles), Beverly Brennan (Kevin), and Celina Johnson (Sawyer); seven great-grandchildren, Samantha, Bo and Miranda Schury, Katie, Sean and Shivonne Brennan, and Jase Johnson; a brother; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a sister and two brothers. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 3, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 4. Interment will follow in Woodruff Memorial Park, Canonsburg.
