Glenn Irwin Nelson, 89, of
Greenville, PA, passed away peacefully on December 16th, 2025.
Glenn was born on December 12th, 1936, to Opal (Reimold) Nelson and Samuel I. Nelson. Glenn lived in Greenville all of his life, and was fiercely loyal to his hometown. He attended school at Penn High School, where he made lifelong friends as a member of the wrestling team. Glenn retired from General Motors in
Lordstown, OH, after over 25 years of employment, a job that was in perfect alignment with his love of cars. Glenn rebuilt and collected many muscle cars throughout his lifetime, and, rumor has it, he was a competitive drag racer in his younger years. Glenn served in the Army for two years, stationed in San Francisco and Japan. He was proud of his service and always spoke fondly of his role as the company clerk. Glenn was a fun-loving and cheerful man who always had a funny quip or comment for everyone; he excelled at making people smile and laugh. Glenn had a passion for wrestling, supporting his Greenville Trojans by attending dual meets every season, until he was no longer able. He was also a staunch supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers, sporting his black and gold as often as his blue and gold. Glenn enjoyed taking care of his yard and home and was always on his tractor or tinkering around in his garage. Glenn could frequently be found at the Dairy Queen, where he was greeted by name by every worker! Those who knew Glenn may also recall his enthusiastic love of spaghetti and meatballs, which was, in fact, the only dish he was able to cook. In keeping with his carefree attitude, Glenn could be heard whistling a happy tune as he moved through life. Glenn had a witty sense of humor, a positive, upbeat energy, and a truly infectious smile. Glenn was a very proud parent and grandparent, bragging about them to anyone who would listen. Glenn was a one of a kind, true original.
Glenn will be missed by his son, Douglas Nelson, of California, with grandchildren, Madison Nelson and Zachary Nelson, and his daughter, Suzanne Nelson, of Wickliffe, Ohio, with grandchildren Max Mrazek, Leo Mrazek, and Elizabeth Mrazek. Glenn is also survived by a sister, Kathy Peake, of Espyville, PA, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Glenn was preceded in death by his father, Samuel I. Nelson, his mother, Opal (Reimold), wife Janice (Brown/Fry), and siblings; Helen, Ethel (Marsteller), Dorothy (Marsteller), James, Robert, Midge (Resinger), Martha (Grant), MaryAnn (Lorent), Kenneth, and Raymond.
