Glenn L Olson

Glenn L. Olson, 101, of Platte SD, passed away on February 26, 2026, at the Platte Care Center. Visitation will be on Wednesday March 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Mount-Smith Funeral Home in Platte. Funeral services will be Thursday March 5 at 1:00 PM also at the Mount-Smith Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Bijou Hills Union Cemetery with military honors.

Glenn LaRoy Olson was born on October 1, 1924, in LaRoche Township, Charles Mix County South Dakota to Ole Peter "Pete" and Loretta (Houska) Olson.

Glenn attended Kendall Country Grade School and graduated from Platte High School in 1942. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army serving during WWII as a navigator in the Air Corp until 1945. On June 5, 1947, he married Norma Jean "Jeanie" Wright in Chamberlain SD. They settled southwest of Bijou Hills where they farmed and raised cattle with his dad "Pete". Glenn and Jeanie raised 6 delightful daughters. Glenn served on the LaRoche Township Board, LaRoche Township School Board and a proud Mason for 75 years. Later Glenn and Jeanie's enjoyed ballroom dancing especially traveling around to Poka Festivals. Glenn was a lifelong resident of Charles Mix County and continued working on the family farm until the age of 98 years old then went into the Platte Care Center.

Glenn is survived by his daughters Susan King and Glenda (Jim) VanderPol, both of Platte SD, Audrey Olson, Margaret Kuipers and Annie (Buck) Sternburg, all from Sioux Falls SD. The two men who were sons he never had, Conrad Kuipers and Jarod (Tessa) Tegethoff, both of Platte, SD. Grandchildren Matt King, Platte SD, Jodi Ringling-Reehl, North Platte, NE, Tony King, Waldron, AR, Ronna Ringling, Sioux Falls, SD, Conrad Kuipers Jr, Corpus Christi, TX, Stacy Madsen and Tracy Hohm both of Sioux Falls SD, Dustin VanderPol, Platte SD, Jamie VanderPol, Midland SD, Jack Sternburg Vermillion SD, Pete and Levi Sternburg both of Sioux Falls SD.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanie, daughter Louetta Olson, parents, Pete and Loretta, 3 sisters, Lois Kaltsulas, Hope Turgeon and Pearl Nachtigal and nephew Ted Kaltsulas.

Funeral services for Glenn Olson age 101 of Platte, SD will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Mount-Smith Funeral Home, Platte, SD. Burial will follow in the Bijou Hills Union Cemetery, Brule CO, SD. There will be a Visitation on Wednesday March 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the funeral home.
