Glenn Scowden Obituary

Published by Neptune Society of Central California - San Jose on Aug. 31, 2018.
If you grew up in Gulf Breeze, FL in the 70s, or washed navy helicopters down in Imperial Beach, hung out at the Saddlerack in the 80s, frequented Joe s Bar up in Boulder Creek, or worked in commercial plumbing over the last few decades, there s a good chance you knew Glenn Scowden, who left us on August 10, 2018, at the young age of 59. Glenn made many friends everywhere he went and lived a mostly happy life. In his last few years, however, he struggled with alcohol, depression and loss, and sadly, wore his body out. He will be sorely missed by his friends and family.

A few facts about Glenn: he was born on a U.S. military base in Morocco, and sometimes liked to claim North African heritage, though never in the airport security line. He is the oldest of four siblings, with whom he was very close, but still liked to reminisce with his parents about how nice things were when it was just the three of us. Glenn graduated from Gulf Breeze High School with honors (though most were dubious, and not fit to print), and then served exactly four years in the armed forces as a Navy seal (read: sealing envelopes). He spent most of his adult life as a salesman in commercial plumbing. Glenn often said selling toilets isn t exactly my passion but he had the kind of charismatic personality that made him great at his job, and he valued the strong network of friends and colleagues he made over the years.

Glenn is preceded in death by his father, Gene Scowden, and his longtime love Lece McConnell. He is survived by his mother Anne Scowden, siblings Victoria Chuck (Mark Nelson), Gary Scowden, and Steve Scowden (Steven Flanagan), nephews Michael Chuck, Jack Chuck and Zachary Scowden, and step-daughter Tarah Beck. His ancient cat Lil is also still around, and seriously pissed off.

No religious services will be held. Those wishing to make a donation on Glenn s behalf may do so with the Disabled American Veterans Charity at dav.org.

Glenn was a great guy! Played baseball with my son and taught him the curve ball. He will be missed so very much. Sending the family love and sympathy.
