Frank M. Afflitto PhD

Not just a gracious Mom, community member, and committed Catholic, the loss of her life also comes with the loss of an entire genetic-cultural heritage, from rural Vermont and rural New Hampshire, through generations of pioneering women and their families... hard-working people who made their lives better for themselves and others. She went back to work at Merriam-Webster after practicing typing on a mechanical typewriter that she had used in her youth. She taught herself banjo. She designed and sewed her own clothing and she was a wonderful Cub scout troop leader and supporter of her children's musical and sports passions. An avid reader, hard work was put aside at times to dote on her three children, and one of my most beautiful memories is, as a child, having her cut the wedges in our pink grapefruits and putting sugar on top. Seven trees were planted in your name, and another seven in Dad's name. You will both grow in nature together for eternity.

I only met Gloria Afflitto a couple of times. I remember her kind gaze, quietness, and gentle demeanor. She so enjoyed seeing her sons and grandchildren who lived far away. Warmest condolences to her children and grandchildren, and to the friends that accompanied her through life.
