Gloria Barner Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 8, 2025.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Barner, who left us peacefully on March 6th, 2025 at the age of 88 after a brief illness. Born on August 4, 1936 in Corning to Helen and "Frank" Eastwood, Gloria was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, whose presence touched the lives of all those who knew her.
She was a devout Christian woman who sought to embody Christ's teachings. A humble, patient, gentle, kind hearted, and charitable woman. Gloria enjoyed sewing, watching wildlife (especially the birds), reading, completing puzzles, and attending services at Quackenbush Hill Baptist Church. She loved to spend time with her family, and was happiest when they were all celebrating together. She also enjoyed frequently taking trips to the Barner family homestead "The Farm" in Pennsylvania with her family. She loved to remember ancestors on both sides of the family. She was a wealth of knowledge and an overflowing well of love.
Gloria is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, James Barner, children Jeffery (Paula) Barner, Daniel (Debbie) Barner, Nancy (Patrick) Dibala, Victoria (Michael) Burrell. She is also survived by 4 siblings, 13 grandchildren, their spouses, and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Greeting her in heaven are her mother and father, 3 siblings, and daughter Candace Ann Barner (January 25, 1960).
A small, private service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bampas House 170 E 1st St, Corning, NY 14830 in Gloria's memory. A special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Bampas House who made Gloria's final weeks peaceful and comfortable.
We will forever cherish the memories and love of Gloria.

One cannot think about the family farm without bringing up images of Aunt Gloria sharing recollections from the past while others listened in.
I have a lot of pleasant memories of your mom sitting with the gentle
to and fro sway of the front porch swing or as she relaxed comfortably on the 1950´s (or maybe older) hand built rocking chair, setting herself by the "wood warmed" kitchen stove. These were her chosen spots for the telling of several of those stories.
There have been countless pictures passed around and family folklore repeated by my parents, full of Barner history, including your mom and dad and so many happy times shared.

While growing up, Aunt Gloria was always one who could share with us, the nephews and nieces, who was who and what was what and where...etc. She was in many ways our narrator for cherishing what would become future memories. One day I am sure she will once again, in Heaven, be giving us a guided tour of all those who have gone "on before us." Thank you Lord for giving us such a legend as Aunt Gloria, whose memory we'll cherish until we see her again, when the "circle will be unbroken, by and by Lord, by and by..." Bye for now.
