Gloria Diane (Moen) Brend, 87, of Portland ND, passed away on February 26,2025 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND, under the care of Hospice of the RRV.
Gloria was born January 20,1938 to Helmer & Thora (Berglie) Moen. She grew up near Clifford ND and graduated from Clifford High School.
Gloria married Alwood Brend on December 9, 1956, and together they raised 6 active children, all born within 6 years of each other. When the kids were a little older, she began working at Union Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide and she continued her dedication there for 40 years, gaining lifelong friends among her co-workers.
Gloria loved her family dearly and always put everyone else first. It seemed she never tired and always made sure her family was clean, fed, and safe, (not saying there was not an occasional temporary missing child at a department store), and she made sure her house and yard were in impeccable order. Even last summer, you could find her on her lawn mower, or crawling under her pine trees, trimming the lower branches.
Gloria will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt; and a good friend to all who crossed her path. Her faith was strong, and that may have had something to do with the number of children she had in such a brief period of time!
In her retirement years, she thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Red Hats. She looked forward to their gatherings and loved spending time with her good friends. It was hard for her to watch as some of her friends and family passed on, but she was always happy that they were now at such a beautiful place, and she looked forward in anticipation to her days in heaven.
She is survived by her #1 priority in life, her children: Gary (Andrea) Brend, Portland ND, Sharee Brend, Highland Ranch, CO, Mark Brend, Portland, ND, Dawn (Parnell) Amb, Portland, ND and Anita Olson, Ada, MN; her cherished and deeply loved grandchildren: Brock (Betsy) Brend, Brad Brend, Nicole (Justin) Bachmeier, Melissa (Brent) Johnson, Cody (Hayley) Amb, Kyle (Missy) Amb, Brittany (Mike) Peschel, Blake (Katie) Olson and Ryan (Cassidy Lizakowski) Olson; great-grandchildren: Will and Lila Ness, Jack and Tripp Brend, Jaden, Brooke (Suchor), Danica and Zander Bachmeier, Shelby and Riley Johnson, Payntyn and Kix Amb, Harlow, Colsen and Sullivan Amb, Jett and Cal Peschel, Graham and Nora Olson and Ryker Olson; great-great grandchildren: Mila and Malcolm Suchor. Her close-knit siblings: David (Sharon) Moen, Renee Press, Donnie (Connie) Moen, Dean Moen, Del Moen and Julie (Mike) Walz; brother-in-law: Duane Smith; sister-in-law: Darlene Hanson and several nieces and nephews in which she adored.
She is preceded in death by Alwood; son: Jeffrey; son-in-law: Rod Olson; sisters: Patricia Ann Moen, Bonnie Knight and Cheryl Smith; brother: Denis Moen; niece: Jodi Press and nephews: Damon Moen and Dana Moen.
