Gloria Condrell Obituary

Gloria Nicholas Condrell, born on March 2, 1945, in Buffalo, NY, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, in Easton, MD, where she resided for many years.

A graduate of Kensington High School in Buffalo, Gloria pursued her passion for education at Keuka College in New York and later earned a master's degree in Mental Health from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore.

Gloria's career was defined by her dedication to transforming lives through education and therapy. She taught at Elmwood Franklin School in Buffalo before embarking on a journey that took her to Baltimore; Carmel, CA; and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. As an academic tutor and behavioral therapist with over 30 years of experience, Gloria specialized in helping students overcome challenges and achieve success. Her expertise in dyslexia and the Orton-Gillingham method made her a pioneer in specialized education.

In Easton, Gloria taught English as a second language at Chesapeake College, where two of her former students later became caregivers during her time at Bayleigh Chase, an active retirement community. She also worked with College Placement Consulting (CPC), mentoring students from kindergarten through high school. Gloria cherished the friendships she formed at CPC and found joy in witnessing her students thrive under her guidance.

Beyond her professional life, Gloria was an avid reader who loved cooking Greek cuisine to share with others. She enjoyed watching movies and attending live symphony performances, and she found serenity near the water.

Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Mary Condrell, and her siblings Kenneth Condrell and Maryann Notaro. She is survived by her sisters Diane Yianilos Brunelle of Charlottesville, VA, and Anne Magnini (Nicholas Magnini) of Holly Springs, NC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

Gloria chose not to have a funeral. If you wish, please make a donation on her behalf to Talbot Hospice at www.talbothospice.org.

I am very sad to learn of my friend Gloria’s passing. She was passionate about helping young people with learning differences and helping them to succeed with their education and their life. She tutored many many students while living in Carmel, California to the College Learning Center in Easton where she moved later in life. She had a great sense of humor and a love of music and the arts and volunteered with me at our local symphony concerts. She had a deep appreciation of others and a wonderful loving heart. I am grateful to have been in her circle of friends and will miss her. RIP Gloria.

Gloria was a class act. As a tenant of my rental she was a joy to know. May she have peace.

Playing in the neighborhood, watching your mom rolling grape leaves. I will miss our phone calls.

Deepest sympathies to the entire Condrell family. Gloria was a remarkably intelligent woman who was always very friendly and kind whenever we met her. May she rest in peace.
