Gloria Cohan Gilbert passed away on March 1, 2026, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, after a period of declining health. She was 99 years old.

Born in Ossining, New York, Gloria spent most of her life in White Plains, where she lived on Lincoln Avenue, then Hillair Circle, and finally at Gedney Commons. In her later years, she moved to The Watermark in Bridgeport to be closer to her son Matt.

Gloria married Alvin Cohan in 1948, and they shared a life together until his passing in 1971. They raised two sons, Stephen and Matthew. In 1973, she married Ralph Gilbert, with whom she shared a full and adventurous life until his death in 2007. Through that marriage she also embraced her stepchildren-Richard, Penny, and Andrea along with their children and grandchildren.

A graduate of Cornell University, Gloria was deeply involved in her community. She served as President of the Battle Hill PTA and was active in both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Professionally, she worked as a real estate agent and later as a caseworker during the early days of the White Plains downtown urban-renewal efforts.

Gloria's talents and interests were endless. She was an accomplished tennis player, a devoted knitter and quilter, and a sculptor with a creative eye. For several years she also enjoyed a minor but lively career as the professional house player at the Hearts Bridge Club, playing bridge morning and afternoon nearly every day.

With Ralph, Gloria became a remarkable world traveler. Together they visited more than 200 countries-every continent, countless islands, even remote ice floes. Their travels were not limited to luxury cruises; they also ventured deep into places like the interior of New Guinea and became passionate collectors of tribal art and artifacts. Above all, Gloria lived a long, rich life filled with curiosity, creativity, and a wide-ranging sense of adventure.

Her family and friends will remember her for her energy, sharp wit, and the joy she brought to every chapter of her 99 extraordinary years.

May her memory be as a blessing to all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service to begin at 1 p.m., at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford. Interment will be held privately at King David - Rose Hill Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, New York.
