Former longtime East Longmeadow resident Gloria M. Hammond, 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at her home in Wilbraham. Born in Bath, ME, she was the daughter of Milton and Amber (Merrow) Rogers. She graduated from Morse High School in 1948 and attended business school.
Gloria met her husband in East Longmeadow, on her way to New York City. She never made it to New York, but they did go there for their honeymoon.
Gloria worked for Sunshine Arts, Bluebird Acres, the Town of East Longmeadow, and then retired after many years as an executive secretary for the former Milton Bradley/Hasbro.
Gloria helped her husband build a home in Rhode Island where she enjoyed many years of reading, puzzle making and walking the beach in search of treasures. She was a talented artist and was very creative. She enjoyed doing crafts and playing games with her grandchildren. She had a strong will and a sharp wit. She loved to talk politics with her many friends at The Gardens of Wilbraham. Gloria loved gardening and the outdoors, but most of all, she loved Maine. As a young girl she enjoyed hunting and fishing with her father and would even help with pulling the lobster traps from a small rowboat. She was fortunate enough to have had one last visit to Maine in September with her family.
Gloria was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard Hammond in 2010 and her sister Beverly Lilly, formerly of Dresden, ME. She will be dearly missed by her 4 devoted children; Rick (Elaina) of Farmington, CT, Mark (Jane) of Bonsall, CA, Alan (Paula) of Tumwater, WA and Tracy Pannier (Paul) of Wilbraham. Gloria “Grammie” leaves 10 grandchildren; Nathan, Olivia, Kate, Jess, Greg, Rachel, Kerry, Kelsey, Jaime and Emily and one great grandson Kian. She also leaves her sister Mary Gonyo and her husband Will of Sunapee, NH.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22nd from 9-11AM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham, concluding with Gloria’s Funeral Service at 11AM. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, East Longmeadow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168 or to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
