Gloria Jean Hatzenbuhler, 71, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday July 25 at Ascension Catholic Church, 1825 S 3rd St. Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with a rosary/vigil starting at 7:00 PM, Monday July 24 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.
Gloria was born December 27, 1951 to Peter and Josephine (Adcock) Muth in Dickinson, ND. She was the oldest of 4 girls, meaning she never had to wear the hand-me-downs! Gloria married Wayne Hatzenbuhler on December 7, 1973 in Dickinson, ND. They raised their 3 kids in the Mandan/Bismarck area.
Gloria graduated with a bachelor of nursing degree from Mary College in 1973. She enjoyed 35 years working as an RN in different areas at St. Alexius having to retire in 2013 due to health issues. Her kindness, patience, and compassion made her a wonderful nurse. She had many co-workers throughout her career that turned into lifelong friendships that she treasured.
Gloria looked forward to the family vacations that were taken every summer. These vacations often included a busy itinerary in order to see and do as much as possible along the way to and at the destination. She always ensured there were activities and snacks to keep the kids occupied on these often long road trips. The family also enjoyed many camping trips even if it was just down the road at Fort Lincoln. Gloria and Wayne continued to enjoy traveling even after the kids were grown. They made a point to visit family and friends near and far, went on a pilgrimage to Rome, and went on a couple cruises, but Gloria’s favorite trip was to see the Pearl Harbor Memorial in Hawaii where her dad was stationed during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Gloria and Wayne also enjoyed playing cards, especially with their pinochle group. Many hours were also spent playing Russian Rummy and Shanghai with family. Gloria had quite a green thumb which was apparent by all her plants around the house.
Gloria’s family was very important to her and she looked forward to the times when everyone would gather together. Although Gloria loved her kids, her grandkids were her life. She enjoyed spending time with them any chance she got. She loved to attend their school and sporting events to cheer them on. They would spend time putting puzzles together, playing games, baking, planting flowers, or just hanging out.
Gloria will be deeply missed by her husband of almost 50 years, Wayne; her son, Jason (Debra) Hatzenbuhler of Mobridge, SD; her daughters Carissa (Tom) Seibold of Billings, MT and Jennifer (Paul) Schuh of Bismarck; eight grandchildren, Kayliena Budeau, Emily and Cole Hatzenbuhler, Dawson, Darian, and Delani Seibold, and Teanna and Madison Schuh; sisters, Karen Stein, Marla (Bruce) Kautzman, and Julie (Jeff) Olsen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Darryl (Bonnie) Hatzenbuhler; and many nieces and nephews.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Josephine Muth; in-laws, John and Florence Hatzenbuhler; brother-in-law, Jerry Stein; and niece, Callista Stein.
