Gloria J. (Wedig) Houtakker, age 87, of Cuba City, WI, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Agrace Hospice following a brief illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cuba City, with Fr. David Flanagan officiating. The burial will take place at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Elk Grove Township. A visitation will precede the funeral mass from 9:00-10:45 am at St. Rose Church. Casey-McNett Funeral Home of Cuba City is assisting the family.
Gloria was born on the family farm in Elk Grove Township, the daughter of Urban and Bregetta (Folmer) Wedig. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Dubuque, IA.
Known to her beloved grandchildren as “Grammy," Gloria enjoyed reading novels, the ballet, walks and workouts at the high school. A lifelong sports enthusiast, she attended many events, including a Green Bay Packers game last fall. She especially loved any sport in which her children and grandchildren were competing. An avid naturalist, she took great joy working in her yard and feeding the birds. She will be missed.
She is survived by her eight children, Patrick, Kansas City, MO, Pamela (Randy) Grobe, Madison, Penelope (Robert) Haffele, Randolph, WI, Tracy (Dan) Weber, Cuba City, WI, Timothy, Louisville, KY, Jennifer (John) Schneider, Viroqua, WI, Christopher, Henderson, NV and Holly Chance, Sarasota, FL; as well as 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Kay Kessler, Dubuque, IA, Margo Lovell, Hazel Green, WI, and Dianne Kester, Overland Park, KS; and her brothers, Kenneth Wedig, Davenport, IA and Charles Wedig, Falls Church, VA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Marilyn; her brother Mark; her sister-in-law Joyce; and her brothers-in-law, Bill Kessler, Leonard Lovell and Roger Kester.
In lieu of owers, memorials may be made to St. Rose School, 519 West Roosevelt Street, Cuba City, WI. 53807 or sent to Casey-McNett Funeral Home, 123 N Jackson St, Cuba City, WI 53807.
The family wishes to thank the staff at UW Hospital, especially Dr. Kyle Schmidt, and Agrace Hospice for their compassionate care for Gloria.
