Gloria Jean Murphy Jones, 78, of Beaufort passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, November 13, 2025 at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home of Morehead. The family will receive friends one hour prior. A livestream of the service will be available at noefs.net.
Gloria was born in Carteret County on October 23, 1947, to Elmo Murphy of Davis Shore and Bertie Smith Murphy of Stacy. During her childhood, she regularly spent summers in Pascagoula, Mississippi, accompanying her family so that her father could engage in commercial fishing. Gloria, a 1965 Beaufort High School graduate, was a proud Sea Dog. A beautician by trade Gloria was a graduate of Mitchell’s Hairstyling Beauty School in Raleigh.
She married her high school sweetheart Earl Bryan “Butch” Jones on June 26,1966. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Beaufort where she was a member of the ladies’ auxiliary Women Active for Christ. Gloria was a member of the worldwide fraternal organization The Order of the Eastern Star Beaufort 128 Chapter, serving as past Worthy Matron and in other officer roles over the years. She also served as District Deputy Grand Matron alongside her husband for the North Carolina District IV of OES. She was a member of the Amaranth Peace Court #118 in Jacksonville where she served as an officer. Gloria was also a past member of the Carteret County Shrinettes.
Gloria is survived by her devoted son, Christopher Brian Jones and partner Denise Justice of Beaufort, grandson, Spencer Thomas Jones of Greenville, the mother of her grandson, Sarah Thomas Jones of Otway, her brother, Buddy Murphy and wife Robyn of Beaufort, sister-in-law Diana Jones Lewis of Otway, nieces, Heather Linna, Jennifer Lewis, Elizabeth Lewis, Natalie Lewis, Stephanie Wilson, great-niece Taylor Murphy and many cousins.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, her parents, her sister Brenda Murphy McPhee, and her infant niece Anne McPhee.
