Gloria Kay Bulloch Potter, 73, passed away on April 21, 2023, while holding the hands of her daughter, Jennifer Weaver, and son, Robert Potter.
The fun-loving jokester thrived on pebble ice and Diet Pepsi. She was born in Cedar City on Aug. 14, 1949. She was a middle child and as such, was quite a spitfire, didn't have a problem speaking her mind, and was fixed to her beliefs and eccentricities.
Gloria graduated from Cedar High School, where she played the drums in the band and was revered as "Ringo." She also attended Southern Utah State College until she began working as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell. She retired from CenturyLink after 33 years of dedicated service as a service delivery coordinator.
Though briefly married to Gary Lorraine Potter, the loves of her life were her children and grandchildren. She would say she was most proud of them, wanted the best for them, and expressed it with generous support and love. Gloria spent several years after her retirement helping her daughter care for her children and, later, her cherished mother.
She also adored her dogs, beginning with Tippy when she was a child, Ginger in her middle age, and Elfie in her senior years. It wasn't uncommon for her to drive to McDonald's with Ginger, a golden retriever, to treat her to a couple of hamburgers. She spoiled her dogs!
The treat she gave herself was books. Gloria was an avid reader, with over 2,000 audiobooks and hard copies in her collection. Speaking of collection, she also saved several coins she kept in a small, blue-flowered briefcase. She was a Star Trek and science fiction fan and was well-known for her humor. She could deflate an intense moment by injecting a witticism or quip. She could be the life of the party with a big smile and belly laugh but also content being alone listening to her audiobooks.
Gloria was also a deep-feeling woman but expressed it through creative outlets and various forms of artistry. She was a talented painter, wood carver, weaver, needlepoint/seamstress, crocheter, and writer. She was a great storyteller and had a vivid imagination.
Additionally, she was a good listener and problem solver. One co-worker said Gloria solved an issue she had mulled over for five days in seconds! Being helpful to her "cubby hubby" and coworkers brought her great joy. She loved all of them and was a dedicated employee and loyal Communications Workers of America Union member.
Gloria was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed watching sacrament meetings via Zoom in her final months of life. You may also be surprised to know she was oblivious to her big impact on people's lives and was completely unaware of how many people loved her. She will be deeply missed.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Rulon and Yvonne Bulloch. She is survived by her sister, Colleen Bailey (Terrill); her brother Steven Bulloch (Lanette); her daughter, Jennifer, and her son, Robert (Chrissey Hayes); and grandchildren, James Weaver, Faith Christensen (Chase), and Alex Weaver, Shay Potter, and Audrey and Mia Hayes; and several nieces and nephews.
In honoring her wishes, there will be a graveside service at the Cedar City Cemetery on Saturday, April 29, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please do something you've never done before or try your hand at some artwork in her memory.
Special thanks go to the medical professionals of the Iron Mission Dialysis Center, Cedar City Hospital, and Stonehenge Care Facility for the care rendered to Gloria.
