Gloria Roberts Obituary

Gloria Jean Roberts
07/12/1948 - 09/10/2025
Mrs. Gloria Jean Whitaker Roberts (July 12, 1948 - September 10, 2025) beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, entered eternal rest on September 10, 2025, surrounded by love. Born in East Texas to Louis Henry and Meacie Whitaker, Gloria grew up in Houston's historic Fifth Ward and was rooted in faith as a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. A radiant and determined young woman, Gloria graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School in 1966 and went on to a distinguished 40-year career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as Head of Finance for the Houston region. Known for her integrity, wisdom, and compassion, she mentored countless colleagues and was admired throughout the postal community. Gloria's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to Dennis Roberts Jr., Michelle Roberts Ford, and Chaun Roberts, and a loving "Granny" to Tiffany, Andrew, and Ava. Her home overflowed with love, wisdom, soulful meals, and laughter. A woman of deep faith, Gloria lived by Proverbs 4:7: "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." She touched lives with her counsel, kindness, and unwavering belief in forgiveness and grace. Gloria is survived by her children: Dennis Godfrey Roberts Jr. (Chaun), Michelle Roberts Ford (Harold); grandchildren: Tiffany Roberts, Andrew Ford, and Ava Ford; sister: Veleta Ann Whitaker Wilson; along with beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends who will forever cherish her memory. Gloria Jean Roberts is a mother's mother. A mother-in-law's mother-in-law. She is a grandmother's grandmother. She is an aunt's aunt. A cousin's cousin. A sibling's sibling. A friend's friend. A confidante's confidante. A friend's friend. A neighbor's neighbor. A baby-sitter's babysitter. (including pet dogs) A mentor's mentor. An advisor's advisor. A prayer warrior's prayer warrior. Gloria Jean Roberts's intentional wisdom was covered with a fresh anointing and she shared Godly knowledge and understanding of the living word with anyone who dared to listen. GJR will be sorely, sorely missed by her immediate family, all of her relatives, friends, and anyone who had the opportunity to meet her even in passing. As a very, very, close cousin of mine, Gloria Jean Roberts left a legacy that I am extremely proud to be a part of.... Gloria was such a wonderful neighbor in Houston Gardens, and my mother loved her like a daughter. She wasn´t just part of the neighborhood, she was part of our family. Always kind, thoughtful, and full of love, Gloria had a way of making everyone smile. She gave so much of herself to the neighbors around her, and our lives are better because of her. We will always hold her close in our hearts and carry her memory with love.
