Renee Robinson was called home to her Savior on November 7th, 2025. She was born Gloria Renee Imlay to Loran and Gloria Imlay on December 3rd, 1947, in Oxnard, California. If you were to call her “Gloria,” you would be scolded. Renee and her sister Claudia were initially raised in Oregon and Arizona, before finally landing in Chula Vista, California, where their dad built them a home in the 60s. In addition to their new house, she gained three more siblings when their family adopted David, Mary, and Geoffrey Theron. In 1973, she met and married the love of her life, John Richard Robinson, after knowing each other for only three weeks. They loved each other through 42 years of marriage and considered themselves very blessed to raise six wonderful children: five boys and one girl. The family moved to Oregon in 1978 and later moved to Colorado in 1988, where they eventually built their country farmhouse in Delta that has been a beloved home and gathering place for family and friends for decades. Since her husband passed in 2016, she has longed to be reunited with him in Heaven.
In her younger years, Renee was happy to spend her days being a homemaker and a homeschool teacher, but in her free time, she was creating art. From a young age, she painted, threw pottery, and made candles. In her 20’s she took oil painting classes at Balboa Park in San Diego. Many people remember a beautiful landscape mural she painted on a large wall of her parents’ home. From clay figures to jewelry and quilting, she did it all. Art was a big part of her life, and she shared her love of creativity by putting on classes or inviting anyone who was interested to come to her studio and play. Though she loved all things art, her love for her family was even more important. She could often be found napping with her grandchildren, discussing scripture and ideas, or enjoying eating out with family.
Her love for Jesus was strong. No matter where she went, she talked to everyone and quickly made sure they knew about Jesus. A trip to town always turned into a full day affair because she would be laughing, crying, and hugging strangers in every aisle of the grocery store. Although she was an introvert, Jesus gave her a passion for talking to and sharing about Him with people. Many of us remember how John would lovingly tease her, asking, “Who’s coming over for dinner tonight?”
Renee is preceded in death by her husband, John, and middle son, Joshua Levi. She is survived by her sons, Roger (Kristin) Robinson of Delta, Colorado, Jacob (Amy) Robinson of Boston, Massachusetts, Jesse (Mindy) Robinson of Delta, Colorado, Joe (Andrea) Robinson of Delta, Colorado, and her daughter Jannie (Jared) Fockler of Montrose, Colorado. She is also survived by her brothers, Geoff and David Imlay, and her sister, Mary Imlay. Renee has twenty grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. As she would say, “My quiver is full.” She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. A gathering to remember Renee will be held this summer on a yet-to-be-determined date.
