Gloria Maxine Sheffield, 81, went to her heavenly home on September 14, 2025. Born in Sylvania, Georgia. Maxine was the daughter of George Heath Lee (1991) and Nancy Lola Williams Lee (2007). She is preceded in death by both parents, her beloved husband of 64 years of marriage, Alton Gene Sheffield (2025), brother George Terrell Lee (2000), and son Bobby Dewayne Sheffield (1991).
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Lagina Sheffield Evans, son and partner Randall Sheffield and David L. Potts, granddaughter and husband Brandy and Eric Thompson, grandson and wife Blake and Paige Evans. Maxine adored her two great-grandchildren, Mia and Eve Thompson, and was so excited for a third great-grandchild born last week, Winley Evans. Maxine loved her and Gene’s extended family of nieces, nephews, brother-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Born in Screven County, Maxine was a homemaker and absolutely loved flowers. She worked with her mother-in-law, Virginia Sheffield Poythress, in a family florist and later worked at K’s Garden Center and the Screven County Board of Education as a substitute teacher. In 1995, she joined her husband working in the family business, Screven Tire Company, where she enjoyed greeting customers and helping serve those in the community.
Maxine Sheffield was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Sylvania. She especially enjoyed many years of working and the fellowship of all the ladies in the Screven County Garden Club. She loved decorating, gardening, hosting, and making a warm and loving home for her family and friends to visit. Maxine and her husband Gene traveled with family and friends to Georgia Bulldog games and took vacations every summer as a family.
