Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis Funeral Home - Roxbury on Dec. 26, 2025.
Gloria (Hamilton) Singleton, daughter of the late Augustus and Minnie Hamilton, was born on October 18th, 1934, in
Boston, Massachusetts, and departed this life on Sunday, December 21st 2025. Gloria was the fifth born of ten brothers and sisters. She grew up having a host of childhood friends to go along with her many siblings. She was educated in the Boston Public School system where she took up sewing, crocheting, and cooking: her favorite pastimes. Gloria greatly enjoyed spending time with her friends and siblings and was always known for her bubbly personality and stylish hair.
Gloria later met her late husband George Singleton in 1955 after he returned home to Boston from serving in the Korean War, to whom she became united in Holy matrimony in 1956. The couple made the decision to live in the then newly integrated Grove Hall area of Boston where they were one of the first Black families to move into the area and raise their four children. Gloria spent her career working for the Polaroid company on the assembly line until retiring in 1995. Gloria, just as her husband George, became cherished and highly regarded staples of the Grove Hall community as more Black families moved into the neighborhood.
Gloria was a family woman through and through. She adored all four of her children and had more than enough of a mother's love to go around to her three sons. The love in which she
raised her children extended beyond her family as anyone whom she welcomed into her home was always treated like family. Gloria and George's home became a homebase for all her
grandchildren to eat her cooking and spend time and the holidays together. Gloria enjoyed supporting and praising her grandchildren's achievements attending many graduations. Outside
of home she loved spending time shopping at the Goodwill store where she had a real knack for finding all of the 'Good Stuff' she's said. She also made many friends at her local Goodwill
where she would spend hours shopping and talking. In her later days she was disheartened that she could not frequent the Goodwill as often due to the global pandemic but that did not shorten
her time calling those same friends over the phone and talking about what they were finding.
Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband George in 2018 and left to mourn her passing are her three sons: George Jr., Kevin, Ivan, and her only daughter Charnette. She is survived by her only remaining sibling Grace Hamilton-Gray. Also left to mourn are all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The entire original Grove Hall community mourns her passing.
The family of Gloria Singleton would like to thank all who expressed their sympathy, prayers, and well wishes in our time of need. With a huge special thanks to the caregiving of the late
Jermain Wall, Tasha Britt-Arthur, and 'Kitty' Bradford.
