Godwin Yopp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ripley Funeral and Cremation Services - Ripley on Dec. 17, 2025.
Godwin Bryan Yopp, known to many as B.Y. and lovingly called "Granddaddy" by those who mattered most, departed this earthly life and entered into the presence of his Savior late Monday night, December 15, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.

In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Bryan will be cremated, and no services are scheduled at this time. The family deeply appreciates your prayers during this time and asks that you continue to cherish and reflect upon the many treasured memories shared with such a wonderful man.

Born on September 14, 1944, in Jackson, Tennessee, Mr. Bryan was the son of the late Barney and Georgia Mae Price Yopp. He was a graduate of Middleton High School and began his working career with Dover Elevators. Following his time there, Bryan went into partnership to help establish Mercy Hospice-now known as Legacy Hospice-a work that became much more than a career. It was a calling he shared alongside his first wife, the late Mrs. Katherine Yopp, as together they faithfully ran the hospice and devoted their lives to serving families during life's most tender moments.

Following Katherine's passing, Bryan continued forward with the same servant's heart that had always defined his work. In 2011, he married his beloved wife, Mrs. Cindy Sappington Yopp, who survives. Soon thereafter, he retired from the business he had poured so much of his life into, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, service, and care that continues to impact countless families.

A Christian man of simple and genuine faith, Bryan found great joy in life's everyday pleasures, especially in his retirement years. He loved a good game of cards-having mastered both poker and rook-casting a fishing line, hunting, attending car shows in earlier years, and grilling up his famous meals using a special marinade kept in his well-known squirt bottle. His humor was unmatched, and his warm personality made him a joy to be around. He cherished time spent with "his boys," a close group of friends he gathered over the years, and even more so, time spent surrounded by family. Above all, Bryan was fiercely proud of his grandchildren and treasured the role of "Granddaddy," a title he wore with great love and devotion.

Bryan was a man loved by many and disliked by none. His life touched countless hearts, and his presence left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on through the memories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he so freely gave.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." - Matthew 25:23

In addition to his wife, Mrs. Cindy, memories will continue to be cherished by two granddaughters, Summer Surber (Wayne), and Kymberlee Dominguez, two grandsons, Will Gray (Danielle), and Luke Yopp, his sisters, Lynda Miller and Elna Blankenship (Jim), his sister-in-law, Mary Yopp, his brother-in-law, Greg Sappington (Dot), and three great grandchildren, with one on the way, along with a wide circle of friends that loved him dearly.

He is also preceded in death by his daughters, Jennifer Lee Gray and Kayla Dominguez, his son, Jon Yopp, and his brother, Drury Yopp.
