Goldie Fjeld Obituary

Goldie Fjeld, 87, of Minot, ND more recently of Tioga, ND passed away at the Tioga Medical Center on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 with her family by her side.
Arcola Mida Souther was born on June 21, 1938, in Columbus, ND, to Lewis Freeman Souther and Astor Marie (Esther) Boen Peterson. She was named by her grandmother, though her father wasn't fond of the name and quickly nicknamed her "Goldie"-a name she proudly carried for the rest of her life.
Goldie graduated from Columbus High School in 1956. That same year, she married Alden Moberg, and together they raised six children. The family first lived in Bowbells, ND, before settling in Battleview, ND. During her years in Battleview, Goldie ran the grocery and hardware store, assisted in the bulk gas business, and was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the Bethel Ladies Aid. She was entrepreneurial at heart, starting a bakery best known for her homemade buns and cinnamon twists. Goldie was also a founding member of the Battleview Snowblazers, where many Sunday afternoons were spent snowmobiling with her family and friends. Later, she became an Avon representative and eventually advanced to a management position with the company.
In 1987, Goldie moved to Minot and married Clayton Fjeld in 1988. They shared 22 years together until Clayton's passing in 2010. While in Minot, Goldie worked briefly at Sears before spending the rest of her career as a cook at a Kalix group home, where she made countless meals until her retirement.
Sewing was a lifelong passion for Goldie. From making dresses in high school to sewing clothing for her children, her love for fabric eventually blossomed into a love for quilting. She was famous for her ever-growing fabric collection, often declaring, "I am not buying any more fabric!"-a promise that lasted only until the next quilt shop appeared. EVERY SINGLE TIME. She never met a quilt shop that she could not find "something" in. Goldie's creativity produced countless quilts, table runners, and other projects. She shared this love with her daughters and later her granddaughters, organizing sewing days that have become a treasured family tradition-one her family plans to continue (with plenty of fabric to go around).
Alongside sewing, Goldie had a passion for food. She loved grocery shopping, wandering the aisles for inspiration, and discovering new recipes from her many cookbooks or from Facebook, where she often announced, "We need to make that." Snacks could always be found in her favorite spots around the house, ready for any occasion.
Above all, Goldie's greatest joy was her family. She was endlessly proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, sharing their stories, accomplishments, and even their mischief with delight. She loved fiercely and was loved deeply in return. But when it came to playing Canasta, Goldie was known to be ruthless-victories against her were rare and celebrated.
Goldie will be remembered as a gentle, kind, and loving soul, whose legacy is carried on in the family she cherished. She will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by, Clayton Fjeld; her parents;
daughter, Marla Hanson; son-in-law, Frank Hanson; brother, Earl Souther; sister and brother-in-law, Lila and Larry Toso; and nephew, Kris Souther.
Goldie is survived by, children, Jeff (Wanda) Moberg, Jon Moberg, Joel Moberg, Marsha (Gerry) Knutson, and Myrna Moberg; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Moberg, Alecia (Loren) Hoheisel, Amanda (Ken) Melby, Jessica (Aaron) Barclay, Kadie (Daniel) Moulier, Jared (Tina) Moberg, Michaela (Shawn) Volk, Morgan Moberg, Jennifer (Cody) Nelson, Terry Knutson, Tracy (Jake) Nissen, and Heidi (Andrew) Larsen; great-grandchildren, Gunner, Piper, Harlow, Ruby & Nash Moberg, Jaxson, Ella, Charlie & Finn Hoheisel, Avery, Kendall & Landry Melby, Bruce Barclay, Kenny & Annika Moberg, Carter, Gabriel & Jonah Volk, Koehn & Grey Nelson, Norah, Milo & Oscar Nissen, and baby Larsen arriving in December.
