It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to a true character, Gordon Lawrie Beecher of Stratford, who passed away at the age of 80, in his home on Friday December 15, 2023. Born to the late Charles Henry and Annie (Lawrie) Beecher on April 7, 1943, in Passaic, NJ.
His departure leaves a void in our lives, but his memory will forever be etched in our hearts as we celebrate the unique and irreplaceable spirit of a man who brought laughter and love to all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
Known for his ornery yet endearing sense of humor, he was a force of nature, had an undeniable quick wit and sharp tongue that kept us all on our toes. Whether sharing stories of his youth or cracking a joke, sometimes in the most inopportune time, he taught us the value of finding humor in every situation.
Mr. Beecher proudly served his country as a member of the US Army. Gordon was widely known as a jack of all trades and had various occupations throughout his working career. He started as an Ironworker, became a Restaurateur, went on to build Mausoleums, before ultimately becoming a Corrections Officer at the Pasco County Sheriff's Department in FL to finish out his working career. When he lived in Florida, he was very active in his community as a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Aripeka Lodge 2520, where he proudly achieved the rank of Exalted Ruler. He was passionate about many things including building model ships, tending to his flower gardens and watching NASCAR.
Gordon is survived by his dedicated companion of several years, Dee Dee Standish, his daughters Susan Mourouzidis, Cynthia Melvin and her husband Jim, and Tiffany Bachman, her husband Jamie, grandchildren, Samantha and Craig Melvin, Despina and Maritsa Mourouzidis, as well as Cathy Smarz, who he treated like a daughter, and her Husband Joe, and their sons Wyatt and Ben who also became a part of Gordon's family. He also leaves behind his sister Laurie Bonanno and her husband John, sister-in-law Judith Beecher, as well as several nieces and nephews and amazing friends who loved him like family. He was predeceased by his beloved brother Stephen Beecher.
Rest in peace, Gordon. Your humor, warmth, and indomitable spirit will be dearly missed, but the memories of you will forever echo in our hearts.
A memorial service will be celebrated at a date to be announced in the future. The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd. Shelton has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions can be donated in Gordon's name to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, www.stjude.org. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.riverviewfh.com.

So so saddened to see this. Gordon visited one of the offices I worked at and he always made me laugh and told me jokes. He will truly be missed. Prayers to your family.
