Elliot Eggleston is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Jeanne; his 3 daughters Jennifer
Dean (Larry), Susan Lisenby (Mark), and Allison Kinchler (Rob); his 8 grandchildren Rachel
George (Jared), Lindsey Fowler (Trent), Christopher Dean (Laura), Wesley Dean (Melanie),
Hunter Lisenby (Alyssa), Cole Kinchler (Carli), Haley Kinchler, and Davis Kinchler
(Caroline); his 12 great grandchildren; his brother Allan Eggleston (Mary); and his brotherin-law Tom Crownover.Elliot was born in Slatersville, Rhode Island on June 24, 1934. He
was the oldest of 5 children to Gordon and Anna Eggleston. He attended Piedmont College
in Georgia. He met his wife Jeanne working at a summer resort at Eastover in Lenox,
Massachusetts. They were married on June 5, 1956.
Elliot taught history at Auburn University. They then moved to Birmingham where he
worked at Crawford and Company. He later worked at Allstate for many years until he
retired at 59.
He was a member of Mountain Chapel UMC for 30 years. He has been a member at Asbury
UMC for 24 years.
Elliot was a model railroad enthusiast all of his life. The Heart of Dixie Railroad was started
at a meeting in his home. He also enjoyed traveling around with Jeanne in their RV and
taking cruises all around the world. They enjoyed a wonderful retirement together.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a big
supporter of all his family and attended all their major events.
He has left a lasting legacy of love and family. He will be missed by all those who loved him
dearly.
The funeral will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church on June 2, 2025. The address is
6690 Cahaba Valley Road, Birmingham, Al 35242. The visitation is at 1:00 with the service
to follow at 2:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Asbury UMC, Oak Mountain Missions, or your
favorite charity.
