Gordon "Gordy" Munkholm Petersen was born July 9, 1933 to Jorgen and Dora (Christensen) Petersen in Aetna Township of Pipestone County, Minnesota. He attended Ruthton Public School in Ruthton, Minnesota. On November 1, 1953, Gordy was united in marriage to Delores Mae Johnson of Lake Benton, Minnesota. After their marriage, the couple farmed for about two years outside of Ruthton. They then moved to rural Lake Benton where they operated a small gas station north of town until 1960 when they moved to Lake Benton. Gordy worked for the City of Lake Benton as a water and street superintendent. From 1970 to 1985 Delores and Gordy owned and operated the Lakeside Tap in Lake Benton. In 1985 they moved to Bullhead City, Arizona and lived there until returning to Lake Benton in 1993 due to Delores' health condition. Delores preceded him in death on December 23, 1997.

On Thursday, April 24, 2025, Gordy died at the Avera Sunrise Manor in Tyler at the age of 91 years, 9 months, and 15 days. Gordy enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing games with family and friends. He was a socializer and sometimes told tall tales. He will be missed by many.

Gordy is survived by his four daughters, Carol Hoff of Sacred Heart, Minnesota, Deanna (Jerry) Boddy of New Ulm, Minnesota, Mary Ripley of River Falls, Wisconsin and Dorothy (Curt) Bau of De Smet, South Dakota; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Petersen; infant daughter, Joyce Petersen; son-in-laws, Curt Hoff and Scott Ripley; parents, Jorgen and Dora Petersen; siblings, Roy Petersen, Myrtle Gruis, Bert Petersen, Clarence Petersen and Chester Petersen; great granddaughter, Alexis Lippert.

Blessed Be His Memory.....
