Gordon L. Shulze, 88, of Navarino, died peacefully at home, Tuesday, December 20, 2016. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born at Elcho, Wis. (Antigo Memorial hospital) May 2, 1928, to the late Edwin E. and Mabel (Orr) Shulze. He graduated from Elcho High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He only had a couple months basic training and was then sent to Nara, Japan where he served with Battery A 90th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a member of the Bonduel American Legion. On return from the service he ran his mother's farm at Elcho and was a bookkeeper for the Boat Co. in Elcho. He married Alice F. Rasmussen on November 8, 1952 and in November of 1953 bought a farm at Pearson, WI where they farmed for 20 years before moving to Navarino where they operated a farm with their son, Michael. He was town clerk for the Town of Ainsworth, Langlade Co. for 14 years, also served on several church councils and the Federal Landbank board for several years. In 1994 Gordon and Mike sold the farm, and Gordon and Alice retired and enjoyed many years of traveling, seeing many wonderful places. Gordon was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Leeman. Along with his wife, Alice, he is survived by three sons: Michael (Jane) Shulze, Patrick (Terez) Shulze, James Shulze; three daughters: Jeanne (Don) Reese, Carol (Randal) Erickson, Betty (Curtis) Gast; grandchildren: Eric Shulze; Mark (Melissa) Reese and children, Timothy and Jaydon; Brian (Carissa) Reese and children, Carson and Bryson; Jason (Kristin) Reese, and daughter, Angela; Sara (friend, Allan Zuiches); Benjamin Shulze; Stephanie Shulze; Matthew (Natalia) Erickson, and children Joey, Christopher, Unique and Ava; Amy (Toby) Kersten, and children Allysin, Lillian, Hailey, Tylie, Randi, Frankie and Toby; Adam (Kristy) Erickson, and children, Ila and Owen; Kevin Gast (friend, Nicole Neubauer); two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Bussert and Arlene Shulze; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his two sons, Tim and Dennis; five brothers: Arthur, Edwin, Charles (Doris), Eugene, Henry (infant); and four sisters: Edna, Ruth (Leonard) Hansen, Grace (Fred) West and Marge (Ted) Raith; also father and mother-in-law, Peter (Mae) Rasmussen. Friends may call at Trinity United Church of Christ, W6712 Hwy F, Leeman, on Friday, December 23, 2016 from 10 a.m. until services at 12 p.m. with Pastor Moira Finley officiating. Military rites to follow by the Bonduel American Legion. Burial will take place at Ascension Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in Gordon's name.
